How much time do you waste a day?

I'm retired. Nothing I do is a waste of time as long as I'm enjoying myself.

The sun will expand and eventually destroy everything. So I'd say the it's all pretty much a waste.

I'm in line with the other retired people. I've wasted a metric shit ton of months on things like commuting to work and back. When I carpooled and wasn't the driver, I did paying work or engaged in some activity that I could perform in the car, so not all wasted. I do the vehicle registration payments online. The rest of the time, I entertain myself in whatever way I enjoy. I voted less than one hour, though, because there is always some sort of shit keeping me from doing what I want to do, but I minimize it pretty well. When I was still working, I endeavored to get as much as was humanly possible done when I was at work. You never would have seen me looking at sports, or even the news, or answering personal email, or on social media during working hours. The amount of shit that I've seen other people do, though, boggles my mind that the company tolerated it. It's a huge drain, and we are all the poorer for it.

If you want to have only a small amount of spare time for "non-productive" activities, simply become a single parent. I guarantee you will then see a sharp decrease in spare time.

But seriously, your time is what you make of it. I've been a single parent for about 12 years but I've still found time to learn the violin and now my kid and I are taking Italian classes.

I also don't believe that doing nothing is always wasted time or something to feel guilty about. I told my kid that it's good to be bored sometimes. That's when you can daydream, get creative, solve problems or think in ways that you've never thought before.

Indeed. Boredom? Well, one has only one's self to blame for that. Good to see that you and your daughter can take advantage of that free time to explore your imaginations. My sons are never bored. When they were younger, we kept then busy (like you have with your daughter). They're always busy with whatever they are interested in, which makes for a full life.

I probably waste a lot of time second guessing myself and complaining/worrying. I'm better than a few years ago, but it's a time waster. And you can't get the time back, and it doesn't really produce anything of value...complaining and worrying. Sad

Probably two hours every day, if I had to guess.

There are certainly times where you do shit you don't want to do, and wonder if you can or should be doing something different, or wonder if you don't do something you could miss something. But I hate questions like this because it implies life is a script, and it is not.

No, not really. The question is meant to get you to think about how you're spending your time, as uncomfortable as that examination may be. I'm not asking anyone to adhere to one specific idea of what wasted time is, nor am I expecting everyone who wastes time to be doing so on the same activities. It's about what YOU want your life to be. No script.

Seriously (a bit), if I have something important coming up, I decide in advance how much time I'm going to spend working toward that goal and commit to that...and I stay on top of everyday obligations, keep the house relatively straight and gas in the car...and try to get some sleep.

I don't consider anything I enjoy doing a waste of time.

So do you ever do anything you don't enjoy? If not your life must be pretty awesome!
