Antifa is a new thing for me. In Portugal we have occasionaly the Anarchists vs PNR. Roudy bunch always going after the other. It's like religion, they don't interfere much with public order. There might be some broken jaws or bones, the judge will sentence, but yeah, most of us don't give a fuck about them. they anihilate eachother.

Antifa is "quite peaceful" everywhere, including here. Violence is a small portion of what they do, but it's essential to their identity as opposed to other activist groups.

Yeah, people here are just freaked out by them. They really aren't violent and if they EVER are, a huge ass deal is made of it.

Generally, when antifa goes violent it's because some white supremacist was trying to drive his car through some -other- group of committed liberal anti fascist protesters.
The police, as was noted in charlottesville....often fail to provide adequate security, and as an arm of the current administration...antifa isn't exactly bursting with confidence in their impartiality when they -do- get forceful. In a bit of comic irony, it's often the nazis who get armed security details and police escort to the airport.
Which, ofc, yeah..you can see why they'd need it, but obviously this doesn't help to dispel the notion that the cops are jack booted fascist allies with guns.
