You can provide evidence which undermines one of the premises of the reductio ad absurdum. Doing so would prove that one of the premises is unsound. A fallacy proves that the argument is invalid. Totally different things.

Until you show that the argument is either invalid or unsound, the argument succeeds. If you don't grant one of the premises of the argument, or you believe the logic is invalid, the burden is upon you to show that it is. Failing that, the conclusion that believing the things you do is irrational follows.

What did you think I was referring to above? What evidence is it that you think I / we are ruling out?
