I’m on the sofa watching telly.  My wife enters the room wearing a hair ribbon and half a bottle of whiskey. She is clearly drunk - not high, not mellow-ly inebriated, not tipsy. She is hammered. She is so drunk the Brendan Behan would tell her she’s overdoing it. She is at a level of drunkenness against which the angels themselves would contend in vain. She is so drunk that Bushmills stock just rose 2%.

She walks over to me and manages to slur out, ‘I want you to bang me like a snare drum.’ Obliging fellow that I am, I happily comply.

Did I rape my wife?

No. Your point being? How is this relevant to a radio station no longer wanting to play a song because some of its listeners now have different connotations about the subject matter and the station is worried that playing it might be counter-productive for their business model?

Boru

Of course not. If that’s considered rape, then you can pencil me in for “raped by husband” 2-3 x per week. 😆 Now, if I was in that condition on a first date with a guy who remained sober, and we had sex, that might be a little less straightforward. Context matters.

I think Boru is referring to a side discussion we are having with Tiz regarding whether a drunk person should be considered of sound mind to consent to sex.

Yeah, Tizh, I like you and all, but I have to admit, for someone who's professing to not have an opinion one way or the other on the issue, you seem to be acting like you do. There's a time and a place for the typical fierceness you've exhibited in debates on this thread and elsewhere, but arguing this vociferously with a woman about whether or not drunk people having sex constitutes rape (borderline mansplaining that most/all of the men she's been with have raped her at some point) without even having the courtesy of picking a side is not it. If you don't have a position, that's where you lay your cards on the table and let the other party know, like I've done on this thread. This... well, it sounds like you're trolling.

What the actual Hell, Tizh?
1. Were have i acted like i do ?

2. Simply pointing out some would argue that it is . That's not mansplaining .

3. I did not say that all her partners raped here I SAID IF WE DEFINE RAPE AS HAVING SEX WHILE DRUNK THEN IT WOULD BE!!!! I didn't say i agree with this position because i don't  know if it's true or not . Tell me is it courteous to lie  ? and i have repeated over and over that i don't . I clearly implied that i don't .

Sorry if this is comments heated

poll for your opinion

Feel free to express your opinion with numbers.

Would you pull the song if you were the owner? Would you censor your listeners or leave it up to them? Is the song's intent relevant? Which way does the pendulum swing for you?
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

I'm not sure the word censor works here

We seem to have left that topic.

You get drunk with a couple of drinks?

ShellB, why are you making it a question of whether consenting to sex is rape if you are slightly intoxicated? That's a false dichotomy.

Because that's the conversation we're having. Or, you could call it sexual assault. Whatever terminology floats your boat. Do you think a woman can't consent to sex if she's drunk? It's simple.

My wife loved it. Guess I'm not getting any.
