If you were accused but were innocent ...

If you were accused but were innocent ...
If someone (especially someone famous) was publicly accused of rape (or other forms of sexual assault), and they were actually innocent, is the best course of action for them to remain silent about the allegation and not respond (unless/until legally advised) or should they go out of their way to address the allegation immediately in order to try to clear their name as best they can in the eyes of the public? Assume the person is articulate and does not suffer from poor communication skills or anything of the sort.

I would not go out of my way, but simply declare my innocence to anyone who asked.

Eliminate the accuser and then any witnesses.

Serious answer: confront. Evading can just help you look guilty.

Eliminating the accuser is unnecessary and a waste of resources.

I would like to add that false accusations of rape are extremely rare and you shouldn't lose any sleep over it. If you were accused falsely for whatever dumb reason, no big deal, the lack of DNA evidence will exonerate you, not to mention having an alibi.

I think the smart money would be to lean on silence.  Best case scenario..you're still seen calling somebody a liar.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I would proclaim myself as the reincarnation of Caligula. Or pull a Trump and say, "Grab em by the pussy."

But I think the better option is to limit yourself to saying you didn't do it, and take the advice of legal council.

One thing I would never do, no matter how strong the evidence was against me, and I know in my heart I'm innocent, is accept any kind of plea bargain. I would rather rot in prison for the rest of my life than confess to a crime I didn't do.

I should be safe, none of the local sheep would ever let me take a bleating.

For the hypothetical others, I suppose it depends on who the accuser is, the accusation specifics and what the attorney says.
