Involuntary Sterilization

Involuntary Sterilization
This came into my head while watching an old episode of Law and Order. I googled the topic for a few countries and found that state/country sanctioned involuntary sterilization appears to be universal for cases of mental disease/defect. (don't hold me to this definition, it tends to vary).

Then I found some other disturbing motivations for sterilization. Population, economic, ethnic, sexual orientation, disease, ..............control. Even some of the voluntary sterilization programs seemed, well, for lack of a better word, wrong.

Other than the mental disease/defect motive, can any of you think of a motivation that you would endorse? Hell, maybe you don't agree with the mental issue(s) either.

I think that I'd be OK with involuntary for some specific inheritable genetic disorders.

Edit: Hate to post and crash, but I'm out for the night.

Tell me why they think sterilization for sexual orientation could be seen as wrong? Dunno

Other than in an theocracy of course.
Is serial raping seen as a mental disease?

Voluntary, and..as in, person shows up and asks for it...is the only way it's going to be okay in my book.  The various governments of the world will find a way to do plenty of shady shit with just that much rope - can't give em another inch.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

RE: Involuntary Sterilization
First, I'd ask whether or not it can actually achieve its intentions before we start worrying about the ethical ramifications. That could just be me, but if it's clear that shit like this doesn't work, that's a better argument against it than the inevitable moral quandaries about the people who get shafted about the whole thing.

Besides, if the rise of the alt-right means anything, it shows that a lot of very powerful people won't give a shit about them anyway. And their co-opting of rationalist rhetoric has worked so well precisely because we've spent so much time talking about the blatant injustices that we've neglected to explain why it was built on utter nonsense.

I think priests or other holy men should be sterilized as part of their induction. That should solve a lot of problems these places have with child abuse.

Rev, it isn't necessarily motivated by eugenics.

As to possible reasons, while I don't agree with it, I think it's a debatable proposition if a person is known to repeatedly engage in behaviors that propose a risk to the health of the child, such as heroine abuse.

Only materialist authoritarians could possibly be in favor of it under any scenario.

I think you might be confusing sterilisation with castration there sport.

Maybe you'll get something right by accident, someday..even if today isn't that day, lol.
