Not inspiring confidence

The other day we were on the go - and didn't have time to cook dinner - or even stop and go in a sit- down restaurant. So - KFC.


I' m not a fan of the food - but they did tell PETA to stuff it, when PETA threatened a boycott a few years back - so I give them points for that.

My SO ordered a side of mashed potatoes.


The spuds came with gravy. 


Brown gravy.



In Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Uh... I dunno about you - but when I make chicken gravy, it comes out decidedly yellowish. Beef or venison - come out brown.

KFC doesn't have beef or venison on the menu - so what gives???


Are they missing an employee or something??

It's probably a carefully curated mixture of food coloring. The color may not have anything to do with the contents.

Been eating KFC for years, decades. Never worried about the color of the gravy.

Pretty sure they use caramel coloring to darken it up.

The gravy comes in a can, or at least it used to. I've seen cans in some of their chicken kitchens in the past.
