I was a bit underwhelmed by the first season. The characters aren't very interesting and the stories have all been done before. But there were a couple of pretty good episodes. I have seen the first two episodes of the second season, and they were not very good. I'm hoping for improvement because I love Seth Macfarlane and I am a Trekkie. I like the concept of a Star Trek type show where the crew are not exactly the galaxy's best, brightest, or most motivated, and the best, brightest and most motivated are not choosing to serve on military starships. Instead of starship captain being a super competitive career, they have a serious shortage of qualified starship captains. People aren't lining up for the job. It seems like there should be a lot to work with there. But it just isn't coming together so far, in my opinion.

I loved the first season, I have only watched the pilot of season 2 and I found it a bit lacking, i hope it can match up to season 1 in later episodes.

The last one (3rd) was really good. Although I kind of expected more humor in this show considering it was supposed to be a comedy.

The most recent episode of the Orville was pretty awesome, which is good since I haven't liked season 2 very much up to this point. The Orville goes to Isaac's homeworld in the most recent episode. I had been wondering some things about Isaac. I was wondering who the builders of his artificial race was originally, and what had happened to them. And I give myself points for having correctly picked up on something concerning Isaac being named Isaac. In Judaism, people have 'midot'. These are a person's fundamental attributes. Isaac's is 'din', or judgement. I wondered if that was going to tie into the Orville character. I could have been wrong. They could have named him that as simply a nod to Asimov. But the Orville's Isaac is definitely an Isaac in the Judaic sense of the name as well.

This reminds me of the old Pepperidge Farms TV ads.

A friend long ago came up with this spoof,

"Remember that layer cake your grandma used to bake? .......... Remember how she used to sneeze in the batter, but you still ate the cake anyway because you didn't want to hurt grandma's feelings, well, Pepperidge Farms remembers........ Yep we have 18 authorized grandmas who sneeze big chunky snot into the cake. Only the best colds will do."

They must have been thinking of my mum. A good friend once showed mum  how to make scones (biscuits in the US) step  by step.

Mum followed the instructions carefully.   As she removed the beautiful scones from the oven, one slipped off  the tray and fell to the floor, where it shattered.

I've just watched the first two episodes and it's uniquely amusing in a kind of illogical fallacy stupidity overload way. It is not something I glean any satisfaction from however. "So bad it's good" taken to another level.
