Sherrod Watch
I think Sherrod Brown is the one to watch. I have a feeling about this guy. My gut has been telling me since the midterms that this is the one who is going to get the 2020 nomination.  And if you want someone whom you are absolutely certain will defeat Trump, there is no candidate that is more certain to win that contest. I think that I feel really good about him. He seems to be one of those people who is just plain competent and can actually get stuff done.

Sherrod with Chris Matthews. Of course, Chris Matthews does way too much talking.

Here is an article with Sherrod Brown on healthcare. He has been a long time supporter of a single payer system (Medicare for All). However, he doesn't think that he can deliver that just now, because congress simply won't let Medicare for All pass. His approach is an incremental expansion of Medicare, which he believes that he can deliver on. He wants to start by lowering the eligibility age for Medicare to 50 or 55.

That is not exactly thrilling, when what you want is Medicare for All. However, I have serious doubts that Sanders, Warren, or Harris can deliver on Medicare for All. What makes Brown thrilling is that he is simply this competent sort who sets his sights on achievable objectives and delivers. I don't think that he would be saying that he can deliver on this expansion of Medicare unless he really thinks that he can do it. And I think those others are people who will campaign on a Medicare for All platform, even if they think their chances of being able to deliver are pretty bleak.

Here's the article:

I saw Sherrod Brown talk with Chuck Todd on Meet the Press this weekend, and found him well-spoken and interesting. I would certainly vote for him if he won the Democratic nomination.

However, he doesn't seem to have a very impressive presence. He tilted his head when he talked, and his voice was gravelly enough to be annoying to listen to. That's superficial of course, but not unimportant when running for high office. He needs to polish his act.

Yep, the man's got no flash. But I sort of like that. We're looking for a leader, and not a television show personality. To this day I have not been able to get over my ex girlfriend saying that she refused to vote for Al Gore because she thought that he was boring. This expectation that our leaders should have celebrity personalities is a real problem. I think that it cost Al Gore the election in 2000, and it gives us Ronald Reagans and Donald Trumps in the Oval Office.

So maybe Sherrod shouldn't polish his act and his frumpy appearance can become an antidote to politicians who wrap themselves in flashy packaging. He has never lost a race, despite his frumpy image and cheap suits. And he didn't win those races in an area where being a Democrat gave him an advantage.

I keep coming back to Sherrod Brown as the guy the guy who is going to get the nom. If he enters the race, he is going to be one of the strongest players on the board. Here's a guy who gives a short rundown of what will make him such a strong contender.

I wish the democrats could put forward a better female candidate, maybe a black one. I mean, Sherrod Brown looks great, but are young democrats really going to get mobilized by a middle-aged white guy in a suit?

--edit--
Watched a few videos of him doing interviews and such. That voice, though. That's mesmerizing! Big Grin

The man has never lost a race, and he's been in quite a few of them. He won his most recent race by 7 points in a state that Trump took by 8. One thing that I am certain of is that if he were to get the nom, Trump is going to lose. I'm more certain of that than I would be if Biden got the nom.

"The dignity of work."

I can see this meme working well with the Republican base.  Yeah, I think he looks like a very strong candidate.

This Dark Horse continues to make my spidey senses tingle. His wife and he sound like they have decided that he is going to run, but they say they still need to talk it over with family.
