Monsters

RE: Monsters
We released a bunch of baloons, pink and white, with messages attached to the strings shen she was buried in that little white coffin. She was with her favorite doll.

How is it possible? There must be a more proactive action from justice in these cases. The guy was living in the car and just said to a social worker that he had a job and home and they didn't bother to check, when the mother was fighting for full custody (she said he could see his daughter under supervision).

Monsters be monsters.

That is so messed up that I can't wrap my head around it...
My condolences, man...
Make sure your wife's friend has some company at all times for the next few weeks or months. I can't even imagine what she may be going through...

This statement will be one I carry with me for a long time.  Gut-wrenching image.  I am so sorry...how awful for everyone.

You're just being desperate again GC. Some Bibles have translations that they were tore down in pieces and yet you claim they were "just" mauled and therefore survived as if people can survive being mauled by bears without modern medicine--and even then it's very hard.

So you just want to crap all over the forum without any consequence. There was no reason for you to demean this topic with your primitive beliefs.

So your definition of mauled is the only real one, that's typical and totally incorrect. If they had been killed the scriptures would have said so. I did not demean anything in my first post in this thread, you just can't help but find something wrong with anything I say, it seems you only exist to tear down Christians.

It did. Mauled and teared by bears means to kill, at least to everybody except you.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

You used the word "suggests" which means that you have doubts. I have none, the boys did not die, the verses are proof of that, if they had the verses would have said they were killed. The curse is plainly applied in my response, you are grabbing at straws.

Regarding my use of the word "suggests" I am always open to the (extremely unlikely) possibility that I am wrong. It is a much more healthy way to view facts, as something could come along and upset what you believe to be true.

However theists do not have that luxury, they have to believe really really, hard absolutely utter non-sense.

You seem to contradict yourself here, you say you have to leave yourself open to being wrong and call it a healthy way of viewing facts. Facts are just that facts, the truth and therefore there's no reason to assume you might be wrong. Then you describe my belief as utter nonsense as if that were fact and you have no proof I'm wrong in my belief.

dbp Wrote:The bible  quotes do not say the boys survived the mauling by the bear and showed you a translation that included the phrase "to pieces". If someone is described as being in pieces the expectation is that they died either immediately or in the near future, especially at a time when the most advanced medicine they had was hoping everything would be ok.

First of all you are assuming they had no medical knowledge to treat wounds, I say you are grabbing at straws, these people fought wars with pointed and bladed weapons that would cause sever wounds and yet many survived, why, they knew how to treat wounds. That phrase "to pieces," is used today by people about others who are only injured, no different than say the running back had his head torn off in that tackle. I don't know about you but I've yet to see a players head rolling around on a football field. Wouldn't it have been much simpler to have said they were killed by the bear, that would leave no argument about what had happened. By the same token saying they were mauled leaves no doubt that they survived.

dbp Wrote:Interestingly if one bible translation implies death and another does not then this means that the bible is prone to mistranslation over time which throws every aspect of the religion into doubt.

Only for those who do not want to understand the truth of scriptures, you know people like yourself. Mistranslation of anything is upon the translator not the subject being translated.

dbp Wrote:And also in this story god uses what is essentially a prayer as an offensive weapon. But lets look at the logistics here. There were two bears in the immediate vicinity of the children at that moment. If a bear is close then a bear attack is quite likely so instead of saying he cursed them and a bear attacked you could just say a bear attacked and the curse be zero to do with it.

Correlation does not imply causation.

God did no use a prayer as an offensive weapon, that is ridiculous at best. God showed that He would protect His chosen ones, He was teaching a lesson to all who would attack His prophet. You seem to believe bears go hunting people to attack, bears will avoid people most of the time especially a large group of people. I live in bear country and know of no one who was attacked by a bear because it was looking to hurt someone. Most attacks come because people provoke the bear in some way. You should get out in the woods and see how many bears you can see in a weeks time, my bet, zero.

Well, that is what you believe in. I don't as you know. He has escaped by means of a gun he stole from his dad's. He couldn't stand 25 years (max penalty here) in prison. I am sure he would be made short work of, in there. Now, he feels no more, he has no mind to suffer for the realization of what he did.

We need to revise the justice action in domestic violence cases. From the beggining of the year, 9 women were murdered in domestic violence here in Portugal. Its bad. We need to rock the boat.

I understood that you do not believe he has a punishment coming before I posted. I know that it seems unfair that a person like that escapes a punishment that we want to see them receive, many do because they are cowards and they do not believe either, they think because they take their own life they somehow get out of a punishment, they seem to think the taking of their own life is different than receiving a death penalty from our justice system, yet the results are the same. I agree with you we need to punish people with a punishment that fits the crime, here in the US to many think that long periods of hard time and the death penalty are unfair for murderers, they have no sympathy or understanding of what the families of murder victims go through, nor do they contemplate the terror the murder victim went through. I hope that someday you can find some peace in this situation I know it hurts through a personal experience of my own. Good thoughts about the person you cared about helps. I do appreciate that you did not do like a couple of others and make a mountain out of a mole hill from my first post.
