In the years I have carried, i have never had a problem. I inform the LEO I have a concealed carry permit, and I am carrying. They almost universally thank me for that info, then get upon business.
More than one one encounter ends in my inviting them to use my gun range. Several have accepted. Most stop by once in a while to use the range. One, stops by to use my reloading bench, and one just stops by to be friendly - and occasionally brings whatever new gun she bought.
Lotsa cops are pro- gun.

Sure, Barney has selectively triggered nerves. : shurgs :
Still, not the kind of bet I want to make, and since I don't have any use for a gun in a truck or any gun I'd want bumping around on a rack it's just not my bag of chips. I'm more the rod in the trunk kinda guy, for when I spot a nice creek.

But for me, not being a D or an R I just buy when they are on sale or if i want a new one. I own 5 guns. 2 are M9s. One is hidden in my car and the other sits in my closet. Then I also have an AR10. The other 2 are a flamethrower and an M1 Garand.
This, this right here is what is wrong with America. This has nothing to do with rights, so please do not respond with that.
There is a huge difference between a want and a need. You want what you have, sure, but that is not the same as being pragmatic. Just like people want a sports car that can do 180mph. Legal and pragmatic or moral, still are different things. Just because you can, does not always mean you should.
5 guns, even 1 gun, still increase you chances of getting injured or injuring someone under your roof. That is far more likely than successfully defending yourself from a complete stranger.
Now again, this isn't about you personally. In a perfect world I wouldn't care. But there are tons of people who don't do the right thing outside of you personally.
I simply hate it when people say, "Just keep them out of the wrong hands", then scream when I agree we should.
Domestic abusers are the wrong hands.
Criminals are the wrong hands.
Mentally ill are the wrong hands.
Workplace violence, are the wrong hands.
Disturbed teens are the wrong hands.
Racially motivated are the wrong hands.
Religiously motivated are the wrong hands.
Letting your kid injure themselves are the wrong hands.
There has to be better vetting at the time of sale to prevent things like those above.
We vet our police and Military before we put them in a job that requires a firearm. Civilians are not held to the same standards.
^^^^^^ None of what I just said is a 100% ban anymore than saying you have to take a drivers test is a ban on cars.
My dad should have had his firearms taken away after shooting his with me in the room. Guns are not toys. And any sane instructor would always tell you to treat them like they are loaded and can kill you at any time. If you think like that, great. But again, you are not the only one who owns firearms and not enough people who buy them think like that.
Responsible firearm owners are not the issue. The issue is America's long term unhealthy obsession that allows too many people to have them that should not have them.
The firearm industry uses lobbiests like big tobacco started its "smokers rights" scam to avoid scrutiny to its marketing. The industry is only concerned about profits, not public safety. They are no friend to even responsible firearm owners. I grew up with guns all my life and NOBODY again NOBODY in my family has been hurt or any of our friends. Majority of us gun owners are very responsible and are well trained. I've been shooting since I was 5. I'm 25 now. I own guns, my sisters own guns and so do my brothers and my parents. I don't see the problem with wanting something and getting it. I can't stand that argument. Now i do understand not allowing the wrong people to get their hands on them. But remember, criminals don't follow the law and will obtain guns even if they are banned. The left promoting gun control is and always will be a losing issue and something that turns me away.
Better there than here where all my stuff is

That' s what politicians (all) do --
If you can' t solve a problem by passing a law .-don' t solve the problem by passing several.

That's a pessimistic summary of the situation even if it's an accurate appraisal of politicians. Can our gun problem(s) be addressed by law(s). Yes.
Will we ever get around to crafting legislation that could work? IDK, not looking great at present.

When has it ever looked good? The most popular wave of gun control legislation of the 20th century was a response to black people toting guns in public.

This is what we call Anecdotal evidence. "I grew up around guns! Nobody I know got hurt by them! Most gun owners are responsible!" This is meaningless and contributes nothing to the conversation.
Also "Criminals don't follow the law!" is the DUMBEST argument I've ever heard. By your argument, we should just do away with all laws. After all, criminals aren't going to follow them right? I mean why even have them? There's no point. Legalize Murder. Legalize Theft. Legalize Rape. Rapists aren't going to follow the 'Don't Rape" law. So why even have that law?
