Should ISIS fighters/wives/children be repatriated?
#31
RE: Should ISIS fighters/wives/children be repatriated?
My country needs to take them in and the children shouldn't need to suffer.

Hypocrisy should not be a death sentence, And the children I don't imagine either said it or if they did didn't understand it .

Is that better than taking them back and holding them to account in court?

So far I'm seeing suggestions that they have 'accidents', be tried in absentia and executed upon repatriation, or hope that those who have them in custody execute them. Is there anyone else on this thread who gives the slightest shit about due process?

Uh, yeah. Like I said, if they're legitimate citizens, bring them back to the U.S. and prosecute them. If they're not, they are someone else's problem, and I don't see why I should give two shits about it if they've been a vocal terrorist for years.
Too see they get a fair shake

I could care less if male or female. It makes no sense to say, "Leave them over there", where we have no jurisdiction. I think even Gitmo defies our values of due process, but even then, those captured are still under our control, watch.

El Chapo was not a citizen, but he will spend the rest of his life in an American prison.

Her sex should not be the issue. How many stories have we heard with American citizens who end up joining a cult, only to realize they had been brainwashed and duped? If you want to argue that she is dangerous, that still would not be about sex. If you want to argue she was brainwashed, again, still not about gender.

How many people living here, were former Scientologists, or former KKK members only to realize they'd been suckered?

If anyone truly thinks this lady is still a danger, it makes no sense, just like it would make no sense with a man, to leave them elsewhere where we have no control over them.

We wouldn't be having any discussion at all about brainwashing if these were men who had gone off to join ISIS. If they tried to claim it was a mistake and that they had just been brainwashed, we wouldn't even consider buying it. These are lying terrorists who are trying to play the gender card for leniency.

My post was addressing what the Kurds might think/do. From what I've read they will eventually be in control.

Those forced to be "wives": yes

Kids:
Those who did not particpate in atrocities: Yes
Those who did: No

So what do you do with the no's? Make them dig a trench, line them up beside it, and shoot them in the back of the head?

Leave them where they are.

Fighters and women who ran off to be with them made their choices. And kids who became involved in atrocities are likely too damaged to safely integrate into Western society.

And line them up in front of a trench?

No, a rope is reusable.

BULLSHIT.

Even outside the issue of religion or politics, I was as a teen a follower. I did really stupid and sometimes dangerous shit just because I wanted to fit in.

Humans, especially youth, when they feel bullied or abandon or abused, can be very easily conned into doing things they wouldn't if they had good family/societal support.

In America, boys/men join the KKK or biker gangs or street gangs, for the exact same reason vulnerable people joined Jim Jones and Heaven's Gate.

Even the few that escaped The Branch Davidians in Waco regretted joining after the fact.

GENDER IS NOT THE ISSUE. The issue is the cons convince vulnerable females or males into following. Just like I was convinced by assholes as a teen to follow them.

If you are going to elevate her to terrorist status, then don't be inconsistent and claim that a impressionable male down on their luck cant be suckered too.

If you want to argue that there are humans who know better but don't care, that is one thing. But to assume humans cant do stupid things and live to regret it is bullshit.

There are lots of X Musliims, and X Christians and X cultists. Both male and female.

Don't assume every person whom  initially makes a stupid decision cant end up to regret it. And if you read the story, even she said she was willing to come back and face the music.

But here is a black guy who got several KKK members to realize they were wrong.

Brian, it's a good thing that the military found you to be unsuitable for military service while you were in basic training. You think like a traitor and you probably would have ended up in a military prison. These women are enemy combatants--period.

I was unsuitable because of a lifetime of bullying prior to going in. So basically you are a sexist, in saying men are not allowed to show vulnerability? I was not mentally fit, but that has nothing to do with being a traitor.

Your attitude is why, even for those who do make it past basic, come back with PTSD and commit suicide or worse kill their spouse or others.

So your attitude is that girls are weak and men have to be Rambo?

So you have a problem with me admitting someone like Tammy Duckworth could do  job she was mentally fit to do, and handled it,  is less of a woman because I couldn't do the same thing? Was she playing the female card when she had her legs blown off?

Again, GENDER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ABILITY.

I am not ashamed of not being able to serve. Anymore than any female or male should be ashamed of any mental illness.

I agree it was a good thing I didn't make it past basic. But I also am not going to blame a female for washing out, or any male that washes out.

I have seen in my youth both male and female bullies. I have had my ass kicked by both males and females. I have also had females stick up for me.

Anyone who goes off to join ISIS is an enemy combatant, regardless of gender. You don't get to come back with lame stories about having been brainwashed.
