Hello!
Hello Peebo ,
I wanted to ask few questions about the Circumcision of Jesus in a new thread . But i cannot create a new thread . I don't know why that is . Nothing serious , i simply wanted to kill some time and clear some doubts Quote:The circumcision of Jesus is an event from the life of Jesus, according to the Gospel of Luke, which states in verse 2:21 that Jesus was circumcised eight days after his birth (traditionally January 1). This is in keeping with the Jewish law which holds that males should be circumcised eight days after birth during a Brit milah ceremony, at which they are also given their name. The circumcision of Christ became a very common subject in Christian art from the 10th century onwards, one of numerous events in the Life of Christ to be frequently depicted by artists. It was initially seen only as a scene in larger cycles, but by the Renaissance might be treated as an individual subject for a painting, or form the main subject in an altarpiece. Beliefs are not a choice, they are the result of being convinced of a proposition. Either one is convinced gods exist (theism), or they are unconvinced gods exist (atheism). As for the activities of religion being a motivator, that seems like a great reason to give up religion. There are plenty of people that are not a part of any religion, but still believe in a god. Deists and pantheists, for example. You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence. (March 31, 2019 at 3:34 am)Ashwin39 Wrote: I am from India Welcome, I'm in South Australia. Don't quite know what you mean by religious activity.; that covers a large area in India Everyone is welcome here. We even have a few pet Christians. Mostly we keep them for entertainment. I suggest not taking anything they say seriously. Enjoy. (March 31, 2019 at 5:19 pm)Simon Moon Wrote: Beliefs are not a choice, they are the result of being convinced of a proposition. Human beings are not logic machines, and may choose or reject positions not entirely based on the way we have defined. If this person says s/he has chosen something, it makes sense to take it at face value. |
