Why are church services usually boring?

RE: Why are church services usually boring?
Southern baptist services, tent revivals, every last ass in the seat at a megachurch.  Plenty of people go to be entertained. Even those boring ass masses usually have a social component.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

When my son was young he went to a tent revival with a classmate...scared the stuffing out of him.  He was about nine or ten...he was done with churches after that.

I suppose I may have some morbid fascination in the snake handling shows or even the slap in the head type faith healers.

@Drich

Who in your twisted little world goes to church to be entertained?

You don't know what you are babbling about.
Just because you are ignorant of curches who's purpose is to entertain, does not mean they do not exist here are two link and a video outlining church entertainment and a second video as an example of a "show/Worship service in ation.

I disagree.  Joel Osteen is the very picture of a typically boring person. If he offered me money to listen to him talk, rather than his usual grift of taking money, I'd decline.

I’ve heard this is actually deliberate, to numb the brain and put it into a docile state where it isn’t actively resisting all the words being preached. It’s a similar principle to advertisements on television.

joel is an entertainer for one big reason is he is selling the prosperity gospel. Do good god will let you have anything you believe is rightfully yours. do bad God takes stuff from you. Do real bad and he will strike you down with illness or financial ruin.

While I do teach God blesses I also teach God sends the wind and rain to test your faith despite how 'good' you think you are. in fact I teach non are good and yet God still blesses us, that trials is apart of building and learning  while joel has taught that pain and suffering of any kind is a lack of faith.

As these are not biblical principles these teaching are little more than a form of entertainment, the reason it works is because we can never obtain the lifestyle joel claims is within our reach (being a good person) therefore no one can honesty claim the goods he says we are entitled to.

also aside from his sermon there are plays and skits performed in worship service along with a band/concert type of worship. it's hard to worship when the act is centered only on stage.

Prosperity gospel has nothing to do with doing good, it has to do with giving the prosperity preacher money, lol.  That's the thing, though, he's a useless boring shit, it's the product he's selling keeps people in their seats.

He isn't much more than the guy who breaks in on African Queen and says "the phone lines are open, send money now".

and he has a whole church full of people 10,000 seats if i remember correctly who are indeed entertained by this type of thing. which is why I call this experience a entertainment experience not a church experience.
