I'm not aware of any push to 'let anyone across'. I personally am against the wall because it's a big expensive boondoggle that will take money away from other, more effective methods.

It's a humanitarian issue. Many of the people in question are asylum seekers. We actively preventing them from doing so. The manner in which we are treating them is shameful.

Why not just overthrow the Mexican government and make Mexico part of the USA?

They already stole part of mexico. That's why there are Hispanics in texas and new mexico. The US invaded mexico and stole huge swathes of land.

We now call that land Oregon, California, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, :Nevada, Colorado, Utah.

Well, I didn't but I just looked it up.
Desert, extreme cold and heat, snakes, scorpions, spiders and anti-immigration vigilantes, with hundreds of crossers dying and many more needing to be rescued each year.
You're right, it's no walk in the park.

I would leAve out Oregon and add small parts of Wyoming and Kansas(The latter two were part of the Republic of Texas.) Oregon was part of a deal with Britain over who owned what parts of Canada that happened around the same time.

I'm not averse to people coming to the US for asylum. What I don't like is the disorderly manner in which it is happening. Process the people at the border, taking fingerprints and photos, and issue an identification card. We don't know who the criminals are in the crowd yet, because they possibly haven't been previously identified. With the information then on file, those who do commit crimes can be identified and dealt with. This would also slow the dangerous crossings, since there wouldn't be any penalty for going through the process. Those still crossing in dangerous areas could be given the same treatment.

Um not exactly. As a native Texan I've gone through my share of history classes for it. Stephen F. Austin was actually recruiting Americans for the Mexicans to settle Texas. He was offering land to those willing to come work it. After awhile the Texans didn't want to follow Mexican law and religion (Mexico were Catholics and forcing Texans to follow it, granted that WAS part of the stipulation when the Americans agreed to settle Texas so it is jacked up that they suddenly got all I'm not following your rules anymore!) Texans declared their own independence. America did help (Woot woot Mr. Crockett!) but it would be another 9 or 11 years before Texas realized it was failing as a nation (Tell anyone I admitted Texas failed and I will murder you all in your sleep) and joined America in desperation to survive.

The US annexed Texas from Mexico did not recognise it. They stole it from mexico, a weak nation at that time, coz they could.

It's quite a shame, how humans divide themselves the upper class divides the working class by blaming the results of their exploitive practices on equals who are just as exploited.

When I was first in Texas I got a job at a small manufacturing business. All the production workers were Mexican. Most from Mexico though a couple were born in the US. Most had phony documents. Some were part of a group who would not associate with Americans and who used coyotes to go back and forth to Mexico as they didn't have papers.

I left when one employee came in and wanted to be fired and rehired with her newly purchased identity. That's when I found out through one of the Mexican Americans that there were several places nearby where Mexican nationals could purchase new identities. One young woman was facing deportation because it was found out that she had been brought to the states illegally by her parents when she was a baby.

Last week a business near where I live was raided and nearly 300 illegal immigrants were taken into custody.

My grandfather came to the states from Germany and later became a US citizen. I have a stack of paperwork tracking all the steps he had to take. I have absolutely no issue with someone wanting to legally come to the states. I do see the strain of illegal immigrants on some services around here and I also see the benefit of legal immigrants.

Either way...humane treatment at the border should be a given.
