I saw this on the internet earlier today, and  this asshole got what he deserved.

But how does one feel, outside a reserve, if a dangerous animal gets near your home or your children?  Even in America, like where I live, we have gators, but even morso in Florida. I get not killing endangered species. But even in America dangerous animals can and do get near non reserve homes.

For example, if I had a kid, and  a gator was in my back yard feet from the kid, and my only option was to shoot the gator, I would.

I am sure outside poaching, outside reserves, families interact with dangerous animals. I am against poachers for sure. But outside poaching, how do you keep the balance between protecting nature, and protecting your family?

I don't think anyone would sensibly object to killing a dangerous, protected animal in order to save a human life.  But it's important to consider that a LOT of harm and death visited upon humans by wild animals are the result of human stupidity.

Human:  'Aw, look at the cute bear.  Let's hand-feed him!'

Bear: 'Huh.  So THAT'S what they look like on the inside.'

If the worlds last Polar bear is approaching my kid; Polar bears are about to go extinct.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

Glad you agree.

I am with you.

Even outside a reserve, you are one stupid fuck to to get close to a dangerous animal. But it is certainly reasonable if you are not going out of your way to be a dick to wildlife, and you have to protect yourself, even if you don't want to kill it, sometimes it does get to "you or them".

I did have a very small gator in a retaining pond in the shopping center I walk to sometimes who'd follow me every time I passed. Even as small as it was, I knew the movements and that look of "hey asshole, you are in my territory, get the fuck away." Needless to say, I kept my distance.

You should report aggressive gators. Some kid might not know better.

It was there for a couple of years, it isn't there now. I am betting it either migrated because it got too big for the tiny pond, or other pedestrians saw that it was getting too big to live there.

I would even guess, although not for sure, that road had a pick up truck end up running off the road and landing in that pond. Bad driving, drunk driver, I dont know. But if that gator was there when they had to pull the pick  up out of the pond, someone may have killed it, or got Animal control to move it.
