PSA: Hate Speech

My wife suggested we change the word slur to “hate speech” so maybe that’s worth considering. She’s better with words than I am. Ultimately that’s what we don’t want here.

I would like that very much, as that makes it more clear, at least for me!

As a woman, I feel like cunt and bitch are definitely not slurs. They’re swear words for sure but slurs? Nerp.

That's the core of the issue, isn't it? When those who identify as the same group disagree on terms pertaining to the group they're in, the level of offense it brings

I don’t think it’s that complicated. A lot of words that are found offensive can be used in many ways that are not offensive. Those are not slurs.

Some words like the n word, ch*nk, or k*ke aren’t used in other ways aside from the one meaning and are slurs.

Also, I don’t think anyone here is telling anyone how offended or not offended they should be. It’s perfectly fine if a black person is not offended by the n word. We still aren’t allowing it, because it’s a slur.

I’m a little surprised that people haven’t demanded a name change but then you all call cigarettes fags too and that’s considered acceptable too. Well, I think changing the wording in the rule from slurs to hate speech should cover this. But...if it seems fairly obvious that people are just using it as an excuse to use hate speech then it could still have consequences.
