I'm just seeing this, so sorry for the late response.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I've yet to lose a parent, but my mother is on the brink. I can't imagine what you're going through, even now that I'm preparing for the same. I hope you heal well.

Sorry for your loss .

If anyone wants my two cents and they still have a parents, make sure they write everything down.
from how they want their hair parted in the casket to who gets the truck to who gets the change in the junk drawer to where the will is to where the keys to everything is to a list of investment debts and the like.. even if it is not an official will at least ther last intentions will be known. everything else is up for debate. the more sibbling the more arguing their will be. Dad would want this... dad told me he wanted that... dad told me he did not care.... oh, dad cares and want something else but did want us to be bothered.. on everything. To the point where it's hard to grieve and morn. just endless bickering.. when a simple letter/instrucion list would have answered everything.

Over here, the state pays for the burial in a normal wood pajama, two months untill they do, but they do. Extra perks like headstones, more... expensive caskets are not paid for.

Well, for me, if legal, just a wrap of bio degradable cloth and a hole deep enough so I don't stink to the living.

As to siblings, we are a tightly united front, despite my sisters being devout catholics lol. Religions (or lack of them) don't get in the way of blood ties.

to be 'buried' by the state your house hold income must be below the poverty line and then you only get cremated. They said we can do 10 cremations to every one burial so everyone get cremated by the state who needs a state funded 'body disposal service'

As if we didn't have enough pollution. Like I said, in Portugal things are different. Actually, cremation is more expensive than a wood pajama.

But how do you feel about your dad? That should be the biggest loss.
