Beer industry loses 40,000 jobs thanks to Trump's trade war

The beer industry is blaming Trump's disastrous trade war for the loss of 40,000 jobs between 2016 and 2018. Two beer industry trade groups said the increased cost of aluminum, thanks to Trump's tariffs, have caused brewers large and small to cut back their investment, resulting in the massive job loss, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.

Let's say the tariff on Chinese-made doodads is 25%.  This means - according to Trump - that for every four crates of doodads unloaded at American ports, the Chinese also have to unload one crate stuffed with cash. So, you're getting the Chinese goods AND boxes and boxes of currency.

China Turns to Russia in Search to Replace U.S. Soybeans

Russia’s soybean production has been expanding for the past decade. Farmers are expected to reap a record 3.9 million tons in the 2018-19 season, with exports of 700,000 tons, the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts. Still, that’s dwarfed by shipments from the world’s top shippers. Brazil is expected to sell 75 million tons abroad this season.

Because of the trade war, China reduced soybean shipments from the U.S. by more than 80 percent in September from a year earlier. The country is the world’s biggest soybean importer and has largely filled the gap by boosting purchases from Brazil.

Separately, Ukraine, a major wheat and corn exporter, also plans to expand shipments to China. Its government-controlled State Grain and Food Corp. agreed with China National Complete Engineering Corporation, known as ССЕС, to boost supplies during an exhibition in Shanghai on Tuesday.

I think one of Trump's biggest brain-blocks on the whole trade thing is that he can't shake the false notion that trade is a zero-sum game.  He thinks that if China or Mexico (or, for all I know, the Duchy of Grand Fenwick) exports more to the US than the US exports to them, the US is somehow being cheated.

Why are his aides and various hangers-on so afraid to explain 'trade deficit' to him?
