Technology, Good or Bad Overall?

RE: Technology, Good or Bad Overall?
Same can be said for oxygen. Perhaps we should say whether oxygen is good thing or not depends on the ethics of the person breathing it.

I love technology.
It can make life more comfortable and efficient.

But it won't make us truly happy. Only other people or pets can do that.
We'll always just be emotional apes looking for love... (our dna says so)

A very good point.  Technology in and of itself is neither good nor bad.  It is the uses to which technology is put that can be problematic.

I'm sure mustard gas can be used for good if we think hard enough?

RE: Technology, Good or Bad Overall?
Whether technology is good or bad depends both upon how we define good and bad, and in terms of who it is good or bad for. Without these definitions, the question can't be answered. The development of a cheap, renewable source of clean energy requiring few resources would be of enormous benefit to many, but not particularly to those whose livelihood depends upon such alternatives to fossil fuels remaining unprofitable. On the question of good or bad, someone who wants to live a long life might view an increase in police use of lethal force in their community to be a bad thing. On the other hand, a depressed individual who wants to commit suicide by cop might view such an increase as a good thing.

You haven't adequately framed the question.

I will note that the four horsemen of the new atheism were asked if there were some knowledge that humans would be better off not having. The classic example being the secret of nuclear fission. Daniel Dennett for his part framed his reply in the negative. If he were to become one of a handful of survivors of a nuclear apocalypse, he might have a change of heart.

Actually yes.  It was the first drug to be used in chemotherapy for cancer patients.

Technology, as with any other tool doesn't have any inherent properties. It's the hands that wield them to utilize them to their advantage.

At work.

There's nothing wrong with our 'Tools'.

Hammers are perfectly functional.

It's just other people's behaviour/personality that makes me want to treat them like nails.
