Equal pay for women's soccer or no Fed funding bill

RE: Equal pay for women's soccer or no Fed funding bill
Part of the point of this thread was: does the US government we need to legislate pay in professional athletics? And is this legislation for bandwagon effect?

Why not? It’s about equal pay, and they regulate that in other industries.

I can't think of any examples that would apply to separate mens and womens leagues.

They’re separate leagues run by the same organization.

I kind of like it when our government sticks up for the ladies. There’s precedent else I’d be more on the fence.

Here's an idea:  Before the start of the football season, the men's and women's teams play each other.  The winner gets the other team's bonuses for that entire season, but forego their own bonuses.

Or instead of continuing to overpay (IMO) athletes, regulate that no woman can be paid less than a man for equal work and see if they'll lower men's salaries or raise women's? Actually I'm all for paying them all (men and women) exceedingly abundant sums for roman era coliseum-like entertainment. Let it get so ridiculously inflated that it'll pop.

There is simply not enough money being made by women's soccer teams to pay them the same. The industry is not sexist, the fans are Smile

The whole overall societal system is sexist, and we all partake in it. Let's not absolve ourselves of this responsibility by putting it all on a select group of "others" who we have nothing to do with (in this case, "the fans").

I could swear I read somewhere that the US Womens' team generated more revenue than the Mens' team.

It's utterly shameful that they would be paid less. But hey, I expect nothing less of "free market capitalists" who disguise their sexism.

Equal pay? JFC, they should be paid more than the men.

Private leagues are a wholly separate issue, imo.

I never realized that I lived in an overall sexist society until I was older. It just wasn't a thing in my house. I played with tools and whatever toys, boy or girl, I could get my hands on. My mom taught me how to cook and my dad taught me how to change a tire. Later, I was the highest paid line cook in an all-male kitchen. Then, I branched out and realized how much my vagina really means to some people. More's the pity.

Society isn't sexist. I applaud the accomplishments of the US Woman's team; they are dominant in their field and are compensated appropriately. I guarantee that the U-15 club team that beat them 5-2 aren't paid what the women earn. Where's the insessant bitching that those boys don't get 'equal pay'?

The women's world cup made about $130M; roughly 2% of the men's $6B last time out. The US women's team makes 13% of the take; whereas, the men make about 9%.

Furthermore, despite a reputation to the contrary, the US prefers the humility of a Jim Craig to the self-aggrandizing bullshit of a Megan Rapinoe, it's disgusting. You never heard Jim Craig say 'I deserve this'.
