I do a full body workout twice a week. Nothing fancy though, not trying to get ripped, just maintain an average health.

Heh.  That's actually why I started switching to swimming for my workout.  Lifting weights gave me shoulder bursitis.  At first, it was pretty mild and I just thought I could work through it; I was wrong and after a couple weeks, my right arm was just a big, useless lump, hanging off the side of my body.  It's feeling mostly better now, but once in a while, it still starts to get tight or hurt a little.  I suppose I could get away with doing some weight lifting, but I want that shoulder to really recover before I get back to it.  Unfortunately for me, joint injuries are notorious for healing slowly; I'm doing an MRI tomorrow to see what we can find out about my shoulder and depending on what it says, I might wind up getting a pain injection.  For now, my workout is mostly elliptical, crunches and swimming.  Those are low impact exercises that don't seem to be a problem for my shoulder.  Swimming gives me a good upper body workout without making my shoulder flare up.  I want to stick with the swimming even when/if I get my shoulder under control.

But.... if we're talking about pain, I was in a LOT more pain pre weight loss.  Chronic chest pains were alarming in themselves, but joint pains in my knees and even my allergies were acting up worse.  The pains that come from getting in shape are a lot easier for me to deal with than the pains from being fat and lazy.

I only just started again in the last few months.
I'm benching about 80 kg, I used to do 100 kg but that was when I weighed 110kg and now I'm only 85kg.
Bicep curls are 20kg and I use the same weights for shoulders and lunges.
I really enjoy push ups so I do about 5 or 6 rounds of 10 reps a day.
I like to make 1 or 2 of those rounds super slow so it burns.
I do pullups for fun too, so I just do them where I can and I don't count.
I walk 80-100 kms a week in my job over about 10-15 hrs.
And all of this has become so much easier since I gave up smokes 40 something days ago.

Something else, the more I workout, the less chance I have of hurting my back at work, because the spine is more protected by the extra muscle.

I do light workouts about 3 or 4 times a week if I can. I pretty much focus on getting rid of a bit of flab and being a bit toned.

I can't think of a person I know who didnt lift heavy and get some kind of serious injury from it so I just avoid doing that, my joints are a bit creaky now and I put it down to the more heavy lifting I used to do in my teens and early twenties.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Have to agree here. One guy I know has knee problems, back problems, etc. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to be ripped... but when you're trying to get huge and bulky like the guys on TV. A. you're doing steroids and B. you're doing the type of lifting that people often get injured from.

This is an incredible comment. It's something my dad would say, based on the false beliefs about weight training that were common in the middle of the last century.

The people who are really fucked are the ones who aren't exercising as younger and as older men (and women). Weight training—done right—strengthens the muscles (including the bones, which is very important for older people), makes you more resistant to injury, strengthens the cardio-vascular system, and even has been shown to help prevent arthritis, diabetes and depression.

How about School , work etc, let's meet each other since im new to this forum. Tell us a bit about you. Id love to hear.

I'm a former and future certified fitness trainer, former wannabe powerlifter and former lardass.

My current goal is to lose what fat I have left (I've lost 50 lbs thus far—I have about 20-30 to go), get certified again, and open a small personal training studio. I might compete in all-natural, raw powerlifting one day. I doubt if I'd win, but I'd love to test my mettle. Plus it gives me a goal to work towards.

I am 60. I still lift weights but cardio is more important at my age. I have had to cut back on weight. Leg presses at 500 lbs when I was 40 are no longer possible unless I want surgery every week. 100lbs with more reps are indicated at my age.

Mark Rippetoe is 10 years older than me and is still squatting and deadlifting hundreds of pounds.

I'm actually stunned that there are so many people who think that strength training is bad for you or dangerous or that you'll be "fucked" "in a few short years" if you work out as a younger person. Also, I'm not usually gobsmacked into silence but I am at a loss for words when I read someone saying that you'll be "wondering what you did with your life beyond bench presses" and that the "vacuous life" caused by getting fucked from bench pressing is "not a great legacy." I wonder if a human made that comment or if it was a random word generating app.

The only time I ever did any serious weight training was in my late teens/early twenties.  I was playing quite a lot of rugby at that time (loose head prop), and thick legs/big shoulders were pretty much essential.  As the rugby playing waned, so did the weight lifting.
