I can still recall the special Sunday classes I had to attend when I was preparing for my first Holy Communion.  I was about 5 years old at the time. The very first thing the (Catholic) priest lectured the boys on was how our genitals were inherently evil and how we were supposed to resist the temptations of "playing" with ourselves and each other.

The guy's basically misogyny in human form.  Same guy who checks his 18-year-old daughter's hymen is perfectly fine with his 15-year-old son having sex.  Gee, who'd have thunk it?  (And of course he wouldn't vote for a woman President -- we make rash decisions!)

If my sons did this with their daughters, they'd be taken out back and taught to have respect for women.  Even if she wasn't 18, that wouldn't make it right.  That she's 18 only makes it WORSE.  It's pretty fucking creepy and gross that there are men like this in the world.  Who think they OWN their daughters.   It's abusive plain and simple.  And honestly pretty damn creepy.

I feel bad for the gyno she goes to.  HIPAA is a big deal in healthcare and if she's 18 or over, the doctor is going to have a difficult time following the law and giving her a legitimate exam.  Just asking her questions about her medical history is going to be tricky; all her answers are going to be tainted by the fact that there's a good chance she won't feel comfortable being completely honest with her dad sitting right there.  

I'll joke with my kids about sex; usually it's me telling them I'm too damn young to be a grandma.  But if we need to sit and talk, honestly and openly about sex, I'm there for them.  And I'm going to give them privacy with their sexuality, too.  Privacy is important for private matters.
