Religious accommodation in schools

Religious accommodation in schools
I can't find the original article, but this one sums up the main sentiment.

http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011...s-reasons/

Muslim parents demanding that their children be exempt from gym class and music. Christian parents wanting their children to be exempt from classes that mention sex, homosexuality, global warming, or evolution. At what point does religious accommodation become utterly ridiculous (if it hasn't already)? These children don't even have a choice, they are being denied a proper education by their undereducated and superstitious parents. At what point does this cycle of ignorance become child abuse?

If only there was an easy way to start over, to get rid of all religious exemptions and accommodations in public schools. But the uproar over violating religious freedoms would be deafening. Dodgy

The article didn't say but can I assume that exemptions from gym class were only requested for girls, not boys?

I wish I could find the original article, this is just an opinion piece on the topic. I assume it's only girls, but it might be both, I remember something about parents not wanting their children to wear, or be exposed to other children wearing, 'revealing' clothing (ie. shorts and t-shirts) in gym class, especially if both sexes take the class together.
