Relic to return to Bethlehem in time for Christmas

Relic to return to Bethlehem in time for Christmas
A fragment of wood believed to have formed part of Jesus' manger is set to be returned to Bethlehem after more than 1,000 years in Europe. ..

Pope Francis ordered the return of the thumb-sized relic from Rome's Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore as a gift.
The relic had been in Rome since the 7th Century.
It was briefly put on display in Jerusalem before continuing its journey to Bethlehem to coincide with the start of Christmas celebrations there.
Officials said it would now be kept in the Franciscan Church of St Catherine, next to the Church of the Nativity, where tradition says Jesus was born.

I wonder if anyone has thought to have it carbon dated?

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Carbon dating is a tool of Satan to snare the unwary. The provenance of this relic is unimpeachable.  Maybe next year, they'll be able to display Jesus' soiled nappies and his rattle.

Was it Bertrand Russell who once said that, given the intelligence of the average person, here is absolutely nothing too stupid for some people to believe in?  Doh

Dunno.  Sounds like him, though.

Think about how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of 'em are stupider than that.

It's not surprising, the catholics have an esteemed fondness for pint-sized wood.

Thank goodness. That's the crucial missing piece to the Nativity Scene they haven't been able to put up in years. What a relief. Whew! Thank you Father Pope.

I don't doubt that, with a good enough cover story, I could convince the Church that one of the scraps from my woodshop is a bit of Jesus' first tricycle.
