The code that is DNA
RE: The code that is DNA

If not, let's proceed.  Where do organisms get their genetic material from?  Can we devise a test to determine the answer to that question?  Let's use you, as an example.  Where did you get your genetic material from?

You can group them together for no reason at all, but you can't group them together on any similar features since by definition one is different.

Organisms are known to get their genetic material from lots of places. Some sexually, others asexually, and still others are genetically manipulated such as GloFish. The information you've given underdetermines any particular answer. I'm unaware of any test that can determine if an unknown strand of DNA has been modified in a lab or is naturally occurring; or what type of reproduction it's a product of.
RE: The code that is DNA
We've already agreed to group the dirt apples together based on their similarities, and the leaf penis apart based on it's dissimilarity.

Lot's of places? Name two.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I named three.
RE: The code that is DNA
Did you? I see three examples of heredity. You could name two sources, if you tried. It's more important, however, that we can at least agree on one source that we know organisms get their genetic material from.

Where did you get yours?

I'll only agree on information you can safely conclude with the genetic material you've provided; if there's a test to distinguish genetic material derived from reproduction as opposed to lab manipulation, or whatever answer you're looking for, I'll concede to it.

Let's pretend genetic modification is impossible to keep your scenario somewhat concise. How do you distinguish genetic material that was inherited from a progenitor, from genetic martial that mutated during conception, by just looking at the specimens in your scenario?

From my parents; did they get theirs from my parents as well?
RE: The code that is DNA
Wonderful...you do know after all. I assume that you also know the answer to that question. Is there any particular reason that we would need to pretend otherwise, or can we proceed?

What do we know so far? We know that we have two genetically similar samples. We know that we have a third dissimilar sample. We know that all three share some characteristics, and we know that organisms get their genetic material from their parents. Your own genetic material becomes yet another point of reference.

Do you wish to contend that our tomatoes or green beans do not get their genetic material in the same manner..and is there any test that we might be able to devise to see whether or not this assertion is true or false, if so?

I know now that all three share some characteristic, and one is only partially different.

Again, if you don't tell me what test you're using to determine the origin of the genetic material, we can't proceed. Did the martial originate in a lab? Did it originate through the recombination of sexual reproduction? Did it originate through division/duplication as in bacteria? Did it originate through novel mutations? Did it originate through some process of abiogenesis?

Knowing where my genetic material comes from is as uninformative as knowing where I buy my clothes when guessing where you buy yours.

Remove the assumption of knowing anything beyond what the genetic material tells us, and we can proceed.

Do you wish to contend that green beans and tomatoes get their genetic material in some other manner than you got yours, or can we proceed? Are you unaware, perhaps, of where green beans and tomatoes get their genetic material?
