This variety show star was a guest on Magnum PI, opened the show with questions from the audience. Tugged on their ear.
What was the guest star's name, and, in the episode of Magnum, what did the character's father do?

Carol Burnett. Her father was a forger.

Actually her father was NOT in on it. as you find out in the end of that episode. BUT Her character (Carol's Character as written) hired Magnum in the plot because she was initially worried that he was going back to his old criminal ways and hired Magnum to prevent him from doing it. But, she (The Character) was a bank employee, and she and Magnum end up getting stuck in the bank vault overnight. Slowly over that weekend(as implied by the script) it turned out her father wasn't in on the money printing scam, but the bank manager who who implied he was going to marry her, who used another forger and wanted to frame her father and get away with the real cash.

Extra, Extra credit. Why did Carol Burnett tug on her ear during her own original show?

It was a signal to her grandmom. At least that’s how it started.

My understanding was that she didn't believe that she was actually on a show, and so Carol told her to watch the show and she would tug on her ear to let her know it was lagit. I think it was a " I can't believe it" reaction, and Carol said, "Ok, fine, I'll give you a signal" which she did. But after that, she still did it as a "hi" sometimes.
Extra, Extra, Extra, Extra credit..... As a result of one of her skits, in future questioning from her audience before starting the show, fans would ask her to do this, because of the popularity of her imitation of the initial skit. Name that imitation.

Tarzan yell. But I don't think it was from a skit on the show.

Please don't correct me for being right. I didn't say her father was in on it. I said he was a forger, which he was.
