Obviously, there’s no way to demonstrate it. Intelligence and religious feeling clearly don’t correlate - there are plenty of scary smart godists in the world.

I clicked before removal, it's an article about a meta-survey of IQ vs. religiosity. 
The key takeaway from the magazine article was;

“The evidence that there is a negative relation between intelligence and religiosity is very strong. But the effect size of the relation is small. This means that there are factors besides intelligence that explain why people are or are not religious. It also means that although more intelligent people tend to be less religious on the average, predicting religiosity from intelligence for individuals is fallible,” Zuckerman told PsyPost.

The meta-survey itself is in a scientific journal and thus locked behind a pay-wall.

However given that DW hasn't made any reference to the size of the effect or that the article as good as states that IQ is not the determining factor I don't get the impression that he actually read it.
