My sister's new fella is a very well read tutor/intellectual type, and while having a knees up with them I said I thought very little indeed of Scorcese's films and that this seemed in stark contrast to his apparent universal acclaim. He's 58 and replied "oh yeah, his films are shit." Cool story bruv lol
What a bizarre thing to say. The guy's a powerhouse, and I've never met a single, serious cinephile who doesn't respect Scorsese's catalog. Eh, to each their own I guess. I think some people take themselves way too seriously to enjoy themselves, sometimes. I've no problem with someone saying that Scorsese's film aren't there cup of tea... But to disregard him so plainly? Seems weird. I'm not huge on Tarantino, for example, but I respect the guy as a filmmaker and the influence he's had on the industry.
Seems like you just have some weird beef with mob flicks LOL

Like "Casino" and "Goodfellas" this movie was based on confessions of participants in real life events. As usual, Scorsese performs! Good flick!
God thinks it's fun to confuse primates. Larsen's God!

Cool story bruv lol While I do enjoy his 'gangster' films, some of Scorcese's best work (and the majority of his films) has nothing to do with organized crime: 'The Color of Money', 'Raging Bull', 'Taxi Driver' and so on. In fact, Scorcese has directed in such a wide variety of genres, for anyone to say 'his films are shit' indicates either a generalized bias against Scorcese based on a few films, or an attempt to be 'edgy'. I will admit that I rather like "Cape Fear" but that's an outlier. Perhaps "bruv" was referring to his more recent films. At base, I think I now consider Scorsy basically a pseudo-horror artist. His goto MO revolves around painting hideous characters in a far less than thoroughly disapproving light. In doing this he conjures up the "horrific car crash effect," which draws and holds the attention due to sensationalism therefore $$$$$$$$$$$$. He's just a sensationalist porno artist to me and his films are largely devoid of real substance.

What a substance-free piece of crap THAT was. Boru
