There is an unfortunate piece of rational at work here I think - that being that given government advice is to stay at home as much as possible, making ENORMOUS shops to avoid having to visit the store, say, later that week seems, perhaps to some, advisable - admirable even. Probs this bit of rational is most often used to justify the panic hoarding of the panicy in their own minds, rather than being the true reason for the hoarding (doomed - CIVILISATION IS DOOMED! etc) but, well, it exists.

A big reason why hoarding is frowned upon is because it puts others at a disadvantage while putting a minority at an advantage. But the fact that it brings an advantage is what makes it alluring: "why should I care about you and your family when I can make sure my family and I are fully stocked and prepared." That's what selfishness is, bringing an advantage to yourself at the cost of others. We talk about them as if they're dumb, but those who hoard and panic are not dumb they're selfish.

My SO stopped to "hoard up" on hamburger buns - i.e. - 1 pack.
They were out.

Oh well......

Yes, it is frustrating. Twenty days ago, one of my sons asked how much TP we had. 10 rolls. I went and bought a 27 count case the next day. We haven't finished the 10 rolls or opened the new case, yet. Breezy guy is right, many people are selfish. I saw elsewhere that a CostCo store posted a sign that they would not take returns on TP, hand sanitizer and a host of other products. If true, it'd serve the hoarders right. I'd be nice to them, though, and offer them 1/2 price when they get desperate.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
