If you don't understand how hedons work under classical utilitarianism then it's you who doesn't understand classical utilitarianism.
Are you not, for instance, familiar with this thought experiment that applies to classical utilitarianism?

All I'm saying is that God is like such a utility monster. But also note that that doesn't make him evil under classical utilitarianism which is why the thought experiment is *supposed* to be a problem for classical utilitarianism in the first place. Because classical utilitarianism seems to justify such a utility monster. All I do is respond with "Yes, so what?" ... or IOW I simply bite the bullet on that.

The greatest good, for the greatest number. Not the subjective good for whatever can experience the most happiness. Look, make your arguments, hold your position, but don't call it what it's not,. That doesn't help.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Killing people who kill people isn't a good image.
It also doesn't do anything to protect or deter that incarceration doesn't already do
And our justice system is geared around money. Legal costs are ridiculously high and if u can't afford them then your screwed.
On the other hand if u can afford a good defence council then the guilty can walk like OJ Simpson
But what do u think??? Should the death penalty be allowed???
So say we capture a few hundred ex ISIS terrorists. the worst of the worst many on our top terrorist lists. We catch them planning to dirty bomb 6 major cities. and then the remaining force was to take out Washington. but we caught them in time. what do we do with them?

We imprison them, and extract whatever intel we can. The same thing we would want for our own combatants. It's not hard to figure this out.
It's telling in examples like these that we're angling for somebody to kill, some person or group hated enough. That shows that we think executing people is a bad idea. We look for a worse person to make a bad idea better.
Thing is, we're never going to find somebody who's hated enough that isn't a somebody. Their choice of profession isn't the issue. Want them dead. Fine. Deeply feel that they should be executed. Fine. Understand the undercurrent of our own remarks - it's a bad idea. I've got a list too. Doesn't mean that I can't also know better. How about you drich? Do you think this might be fair and accurate with respect to your own position?
