The problems with cops have gotten worse with passing decades.
At one time cops were called peace officers, now they are law enforcers.
They once rarely shot citizens, now they are shooting citizens that reach for their DL and registration.
They have been trained to escalate every situation, to think every citizen wants to kill them.
Cops were originally supposed to serve and protect, they were to put our rights first. Not anymore. Top priority for cops today is getting home safely everyday and if they have to kill you to make that happen then they will do it with a smile on their face.
We know that approx 1000 people are shot and murdered by the cops every year. We know on average that about 27 cops are shot and killed every year, most of the cops that die in the line of duty happen due to vehicle accidents. It barely makes the top 20 list of most dangerous jobs, most citizens think it's extremely dangerous, but considering there are almost 400,000 officers in the United States, it's never been safer to be a cop and never been more dangerous to be a citizen interacting with a cop.
If we take a look at pre-Nixon era, if you were busted and put in prison you were a murderer, rapist, robber, assaulter, thief. Now if you're in prison you probably didn't hurt anyone, you were probably stopped by the side of the road, cop found a bag of weed or some other drug in your car and you got a mandatory minimum. Most states now have more than 10,000 pages of criminal laws that can be broken and stacked on top of each other to put a person away for decades.
