The good thing about being forgetful and bills....

The good thing about being forgetful and bills....
Unlike my late mother who was a very scheduled and paid her bills every month on the same day, I never got into that. My method was to pay by when my paycheck came in and that always fluctuated being paycheck to paycheck, vs a salaried teacher.

Anywho, even today now that I don't have to worry about starving to death, my mind is still stuck on paying on "use the force Luke". But I will say this, even when I lived paycheck to paycheck, paranoia always scared me. So while I never payed the same day, like now, I always paid, even if slightly late. The good thing about most utilities is that the wont cut you off like a dictator, and most of the time they let it go for a week or a month as long as they see you always consistently pay.

I can be forgetful. But I always love when I pay a bill, forget, call again, thinking I hadn't paid it, only to have the person on the other end I had paid it. It is far better than getting cut off.

So today, I called my cell phone company, knowing "the force" was hinting at me that I was close to that time of month. But had forgotten that I had paid earlier this month. They WILL cut you off unlike electric and water. But the point is that I forgot that I already paid, and regardless of utility, that is still better than being late.

Kinda like when you forget money in your wallet or pocket and forget about it, only to find it later.

My county water utility company is the most forgiving. Living in a resort town, they know lots of houses are rentals, or vacation homes and they know those can be empty for months. I've forgotten my water bill many times, but they simply add the prior bill to the new bill. I have never been cut off on my electric or water in 13 years I have lived at this location, even being late sometimes.

If you are going to forget shit, this is the way to forget shit.

‘Paranoia always scared me.’  That’s actually very funny.

Have you thought of maybe arranging auto-pay through your bank? That way, bills are always paid on the due date. You never have to worry about it, or even think about it.

I have an Excel spreadsheet that tells me when a bill is due (with alerts), how much is due, when I paid that bill, status of payment with bank (Processing/Cleared) and a total of payments to be made that month with a running total of outstanding payments as I make payments.

Other than that I just wing it.

I have to admit, even with my safety net my late mother left me. I am still stuck on the "use the force Luke" method.
