The photometer and clocks were designed, programmed, constructed, and implemented by humans. Humans came up with the theories which the machines are used to test. Humans read the numbers off the screens and decide how they apply to the experiment, and how the experiment applies to the theory.
Lots of humans needed.

So what? Even with our own senses we aren't studying the world "as it is".
Where are you going with this? I feel this is just a lot of obfuscation so you can throw gods or souls into science.

If everything is just conjecture and opinion, and we can't trust our senses, then his nebulous religious beliefs are no more or less credible than literally any other proposition.
John can't make his case, and can't even conceive of a way to make his case - so the only option available to him and within his ability to pursue is to burn everything else to the ground. It's idiotic, since it doesn't help to advance his case, erodes that very case, and leaves him with no way to advance his case.

A common loon is similarly capable of referencing whatever happens to fall out of their mouth. Is reference your truth-making property? Is that how you'd advance your case after burning the fundamental underpinnings of those references to ash?
