I am surprised OLB, that you haven't joined a looney filled right wing Militia yet. Or maybe you have and haven't told anyone yet.

What makes you think I am paranoid, Mr Self Admitted Mental Case?

Because I don't buy into your mental theories?

Because I legally own and carry a gun?

I don't think anyone is "out to get me" - but I'm pretty well prepared if some whacko tries anything.

More because any time the subject of gun control comes up, you take it personally, and you go from your typical Devil's Advocate rhetoric to a kid throwing a tantrum, even when they're talking about restrictions that shouldn't even effect you [unless, of course, you are A) a crazy racist, or B) the sort of person who pulls a gun on someone who tells you "good morning." And I'm going to give you benefit of the doubt and assume you're neither of these things.]

When the subject comes up, at best, you're like a more articulate version of the "30-to-50 feral hogs" guy who went viral last year responding to Jason Isbell tweeting about assault weapons, and being so caught up in his outrage that it seems he temporarily forgot that the .270 Remington he uses for that purpose (a bolt action shotgun with a magazine capacity of 3 shells plus one in the chamber) does not legally qualify as one, and is therefore irrelevant to the discussion.

.270 is an unpopular rifle caliber. It is not a shotgun.

Unpopular? In 2015 it was the 5th best selling centerfire rifle cartridge in the US. I'd hardly call 5th unpopular, and I doubt much has changed since then. It may be unpopular in Michigan with your weird cartridge restrictions for deer hunting, but it is a favorite for medium-sized game in most of the rest of the US.

It's unpopular here.

Remember a couple years back at the worst of the ammo shortage?

Every store had one caliber on the shelf - .270. They never even raised the price.

I considered re-barreling one of my 30-06s to take advantage of it - but knew the shortage would end..

One thing, I do get tired of both the left and right calling it "gun control". It makes people like you needlessly paranoid. I like to use the term "gun safety".

And I could give a shit less about feral hogs. Hogs cant rent a hotel room 30 stories up and murder 53 concert goers with a weapon of war.

I sometimes feel in the middle of these things;

I have a modest firearm [Glock G43X ] and so I understand the need for wanting to have some protection if need be.
At the same time, I don't understand fetishizing them and only being able to achieve climax if I have 12 different full automatic rifles stationed around my bed that also has a mounted turret.

Maybe I'm an idealist but I'd like to there could exist a comfortable middle ground.

That middle ground would be nice. I have some firearms, most of which got unloaded on me when my FiL died and my MiL went into a home. I don't ever expect to use them for home defense, though. They stay locked in a safe. I have other means, which aren't going to be discussed here. All I've ever used mine for is target practice.

What is your scenario for a successful protection use of a firearm?

Practice practice practice.

And never give away your strategy.

A bit of luck helps.

Practice helps more.
