Let's face it, these days, I'm convinced that the Republican Party has some kind of vested interest in allowing these mass shootings to take place. I used to think it was because they could exploit the fear caused by these mass shootings and claim that they're the only ones who can prevent the moral decay that supposedly causes these shootings and use that to consolidate power.
But these days, it's more like their vested interest is in getting more money from the gun lobby. It's a simple cycle that plays out every mass murder or so: the Democrats start demanding gun control (which usually takes the form of A: introducing new measures to make new sales of guns a bit harder, or B: banning certain accessories to guns), the Republicans start REE-ing over the possibility that this could infringe the Second Amendment (usually overstating how far-reaching the proposed legislation is in the process) in between the thoughts and prayers they're supposedly doing, and it all ends up either ending with nothing happening, or if you're particularly unlucky, laws being passed to make it EASIER to get guns. And, on a larger scale, because the Republicans keep REE-ing about how the Dems are going to take their guns away (even though this doesn't happen, except with certain illegal firearms like sawed-off shotguns or machine guns or maybe other guns , but only under certain very specific circumstances) and people who aren't familiar with how the cycle I described in the previous paragraph tends to work buy into what they say, this just keeps ending up with people buying more guns because they think every time the pundits REE about it, it could be their last chance to buy a gun, particularly when a Democrat is President. And it all amounts to one thing: more money for the gun makers, more money for the gun lobbyists, and more money for the Republican politicians in their pocket.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The flying under the radar issue is the one they don't want to face. And these idiots are not willing to allow firearms on passenger jets or nursing homes. I agree they should not. But, if they are trying to be logically consistent one should be allowed to have a 357 or AR-15 on a passenger jet or nursing home. They don't accept that there are places, even they agree that firearms should not be allowed, but because of worship of the object, they do everything they can to protect the industry profits.
