The Robin Williams Remembrance Memorial Thread
Saw The Fisher King for the first time today. Williams' role in it was epic, of course.

Wow, do I miss this man.

For those who never say his last film, Boulevard, it is an absolute gem.

"Good Will Hunting" was playing in my high school years, and when I went to see it in the theater, who do I see there but my math teacher. Now, the math teacher is not exactly your buddy, but we sat next to each other, and for those two hours we forgot our differences. We laughed together, we cried together, he sat in my lap, and it was one of the best two hours I spent in my life, all thanks to Robin Williams.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

One of my favorite movies starring Robin Williams is Bicentennial Man.

Another favorite of mine is What Dreams May Come (1998). Even now that I don't believe in heaven or hell, it's a great fantasy romance with more lean on the quest side of romance.

I had the pleasure of seeing Robin Williams in person in full frontal nude.

I am NOT kidding.

That man had hair like bear fur.
Where are we going and why am I in this hand basket?

To many good performances to pick just one. I even liked him as the bad guy in Insomnia and One Hour Photo.

Anyone remember him in the Law and Order SUV episode Authority?

Recently rewatched One Hour Photo. Easily one of my favourite films of the Aughts.

And somehow, I find myself wondering what this film would be like adapted into a musical. Perhaps play up the tragedy inherent in the character, a deeply traumatised man (and part of me wants to have him also be on the spectrum in addition to all that horrifying shit) looking for connection and in a job that's on the verge of being obsolete (maybe make it a period piece, set it a few years after 2002 and have the boss mention when he's firing Sy that he's on the verge of removing the one hour photo processing section entirely). Of course, that big-ass wall of photos by the Yorkins he keeps in his apartments would be a big problem. I remember that Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder had a video screen that helped take care of most of the scene transitions, which would help, but having to recreate all those years' worth of the Yorkins' lives with new actors (including several kids young enough to be Jake at multiple ages) for every production might be a big logistical problem, unless maybe we just photoshop new actors' heads on everyone's body. And how to handle the ambiguity of the photo at the end of the Yorkins seemingly with "Uncle Sy" that we're not sure is real expression of gratitude or just a delusion Sy created so he can cope with confronting Bud Yorkin and his mistress with a knife?

Very few actors commit to a role like Williams did.
