James Clyburn:"Nobody would have believed it now. But swastikas hung in churches throughout Germany. We had better be very careful.”
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

“Nothing new, nothing stimulating, came of my church experience ─ just an ongoing drone that served no other purpose than to deafen my ears. I came to the realization that having a mind opened by wonder is much more beautiful and exciting than a mind closed by belief.” (Sage Mauldin)

That's weird, I never heard of that nom de plume. T/Y
Dialed into Goodreads. I've read "Jerry Was A Man." I actually used that in a quip about the Jurassic Park movie after the one where the critters were on auction. I pointed out that in the next movie the little girl should be seen in a cell, reading "Jerry Was A Man."
I read once that Heinlein was ‘First Sword’ at the Naval Academy. I imagine his fencing was pretty good, too. 😉
