I figured there was something to it but frankly his screed is boring and idiotic and I just don't care.

If you don' t see this as a problem then we have to assume you think all poor people should be stuck in an inner city ghetto. That is the only place they can survive. Rural life doesn' t include mass transit.

Why does it make it impossible for the poor to own a car?

Ever price the maintenance?

Go google " what does it cost to replace the batteries in a Chevy Volt"..... They do need it every 5-7 years.

Just the battery is over $8700. No labor.

And NO the price will not go down as production goes up. Production costs will go down - but MATERIAL costs will go up drastically due to the scarcity of the materials.

There will be no cheap cars. The remaining gas vehicles will be snatched up by wealthier people when production of gas powered vehicles stops due to regulation.

What a load of bullshit. I just recently looked up a old stereo receiver from the 1970s I used to own, that has been totally replaced by mp3s and the internet and ear buds. I also could not afford an original first year Model T. That receiver didn't cost that much when I got it. But because it was popular, just like classic cars, the price rose. Unfortunately I didn't take care of mine.

I really love how you actually miss the REAL problem, and state it without realizing it. COST isn't the issue, pace of consumption is. Diamonds are not fucking rare, they never have been.

This isn't about electric cars, or any product for that matter. The only reason price of materials goes up is because of PACE OF CONSUMPTION.  Poor people don't need to be priced out of electric transportation. The world's rich simply need to stop thinking they are the only class that matters and innovate.

I'll second this comment.

When a vehicle is 'Running on electric' they are damn near silent.
While possibly good for people living besides road ways.
Where such vehicles and pedestrians mingle? It might actually cause issues.

Cheers.

OLB doesn't know shit and its sad he's so ignorant and confused.  It will take decades for ICE based automobiles to completely disappear from the roads because there are so many of them and they are still being mass produced today.  It may take even longer for diesel vehicles to go away because they are extremely efficient and long lasting.  Not to mention that refineries won't be going anywhere in the next 100 years because oil is the base material for thousands of products, many of which may take centuries to replace with other materials.  Even if we stopped refining oil today, you could still convert ICE cars to burn various combinations of alcohol, veggie oil or other biofuels.  You can bet enthusiasts will maintain this activity for at least a century after EVs are dominant.  So stop it with this bullshit about poor people.  You don't care about poor people anyway.

Side note, when you refine crude oil you aren't creating material so much as dividing up material using the boiling point of the many organic compounds found in crude oil.  Some of this stuff is barely usable and essentially waste, such as butane.  Remember butane lighters?  Because smoking is so much less popular now, there's more butane in oil that can be sold as fuel for lighters and there's not a lot of other uses for this stuff.  It generally gets mixed in with gasoline in the winter but in the summer it's boiling point is too low for that so they just store it in tanks until they switch to the winter mix.  Sometimes they just burn it in flares.
