Now look at the poor fucks.  Crying on the internet like common jordan peterson.
Funny enough it's a myth we burnt down the Whitehouse. As for stuff we have done.

Invented universal declaration of human rights (that was a Canadian)

Invented Peace Keeping in its modern sense

Invented Standardized Time

Discovered Insulin

Invented  The Pacemaker

The standardized treatment of epilepsy

The Walkie Talkie

The Hand Held Phone

Voice Transmission Technology

Green Ink Used In American Money

Motorized Wheelchairs

I would say we did a few things

Psh, we're gonna need to see alot more on your cv before we can honestly talk about accepting you as the 51st state. Now look, I'm sorry, that's just the way it is. No need to embarrass yourself by begging. We only have so many frozenpeaches here in the states and if we let you northern crypto-marxist immigrants in there won't be enough to go round for the real people.

Actually, here's one case where he did

Quote:Are you a Christian? Do you believe in God?

I think the proper response to that is No, but I’m afraid He might exist.

Of course, I'm inclined to think that what Jordan personally believes about God isn't necessarily relevant, especially since he seems more interested in religion as a tool to create a functional society. I suspect that if you got Jesse Custer from Preacher to talk to him and use The Word to explain what he really thinks, it'd be something similar to this:

Granted, you'd have to replace heathenism with Christianity, maybe whatever religion was traditionally popular in a given area, but I doubt that when he talks about promoting Christianity, it's from the point of view of someone who feels they were washed in the blood of the lamb and wants as many people as possible to be so.

It isn't - take a look at the first example I posted to see him expound upon his fears, there, specifically and at length. He's a man profoundly uncomfortable with his faith and riddled by self doubt in the light of his understanding of it. He feels the tug of belief - but is he transfigured? Well, no, and he knows it. In that light, what right does he have to say he truly believes in god or is truly a christian, because magic book tells him that if he did and he were he'd be moving mountains - and yet no mountain moves.

So that's a super literal and traditional idea swirling around his head - but he does balance that with more liberal and modern interpretations. For example, he points to the notion that even god, when he was a made a man, lost faith. That all of this that we have to deal with on earth is so terrible that it was enough to cause god to doubt himself on the cross - so what chance do we lowly mortals have? Now that..is a heady mix of literalism and allegorical revision - but all of it distinctly and explicitly christian. He's a christian who doesn't want to get bogged down by (or slimed with) those bits of christiana he doesn't believe in while asserting those bits he does. -Especially- when he happens to hold some political view shared by dirtball christians which he would like to argue for without it being pinged and dismissed as coming from dirtball christianity rather than being some profound philosophic point that he makes and everyone else misses. IOW, a bog standard christian.

I'd be surprised to find that he was a creationist, or an inerrantist or a literalist, and he's certainly no backwoods bible thumper...but fucks sake, we can give the man his christianity, which he never shuts up about...can't we?

-my take, btw.... grifty grifters gotta grift, and I get that someone being a shameless lair about so many things can make a person suspect that other is a shameless liar about everything, sure - but all of his public persona probably has at least a little bit to do with trying to be that transfigured man and validate his peculiar sense of christian self worth by moving some mountain. Unfortunately, he picked the mountain of progress. Good luck Sisyphus.

(and all of this, ofc, is colored by my already being aware of that line of horseshit in christiana. It's considered a profound and pious quip in some circles to say that you believe in christ, but are working on being a christian. It's a crowd favorite at hypercritical fundy churches...that also just so happen to spout off Jordy P's abhorrent political beliefs, as well.)

Here's cbn, in a story about his daughter becoming born again, riffing off that very same comment.

Quote:He once famously said he “act[s] as if God exists,” adding, “I’m terrified that he might.”

This spring, Jordan Peterson told Orthodox Christian artist Jonathan Pageau that he is at a stage in his life in which he is open to finding faith in Jesus.

“The difference — and C.S. Lewis pointed this out as well — between those mythological gods and Christ was that there’s a historical representation of his existence as well,” the elder Peterson said. “[S]o what you have in the figure of Christ is an actual person who actually lived plus a myth, and, in some sense, Christ is the union of those two things.”

“The problem is I probably believe that but I’m amazed at my own belief, and I don’t understand it,” he continued, clearly becoming emotional. “Because I’ve seen, sometimes, the objective world and the narrative world touch — you know, that’s union synchronicity. And I’ve seen that many times in my own life and so, in some sense, I believe it’s undeniable.”

Are you a christian?

Elizabeth Warren said she was a native American, Shaun King said he is black, and Ted Haggard said gay sex was icky and bad before getting caught. No, someone saying something is not enough for me. Like it has been pointed out, JBP is a grifter and likes to make his audience happy. He is clearly speaking in metaphor when he talks about Bible stories, and he makes that pretty clear. I'm aware that there are ten million sects of Christianity, but JBP doesn't sound like any other Christian I've heard. If we're going with the definition that it doesn't matter if you believe in a god and it doesn't matter if you believe Christ was divine and you don't believe the Bible stories are literal, then fine, JBP can be a Christian going by that definition, but I'm pretty sure that's not what 99 % of us think of here when we hear the word Christian.

What are your criteria for falsifying the claim "i am a christian"?

Funny enough all the things he IA lists are things groups of Christians believe or have believed.

Non-Trinitarians reject Jesus as divine

Types of Christain Mysticism treat the bible as a pure Metaphor

Christain Atheism rejects claims about god but holds that Jesus's teachings are a good way to live

Christain Apathism is a thing too where even if God does or doesn't exist Christianities idealogy is a good way to live

These fit perfectly into my image of Christanity
