The 22-year-old van lifer went missing, and her fiancé returned home without her. True crime enthusiasts are eating it up.

Here is an article well worth reading.

So the BF is on the run and everyone is looking for him, but what if they find him dead?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

The investigation will continue until the cops (in this case likely the FBI) is satisfied that either the BF is guilty or they find evidence of someone else's involvement.

But the key to living in a civil society is that we don't become vigilantes with no courts. One can armchair quarterback the outcome of both trials, but we have courts for a reason. It isn't to agree with the outcome of the jury, we have courts so we don't end up like ISIS or Hitler or Stalin.

Even with Chauvin and Floyd. The video for the sane was a slam dunk. But even with that, even Chauvin had the right to a lawyer and a trial.

If there is anyone I hate in media the most it has long since been Nancy Grace.  It isn't that media should not report on the accused, but in that she treated the process as a Jerry Springer show.

Sounds like you plan to contribute to his defense fund.

Fuck no.

It certainly looks like a slam dunk case in this case. She vanished, he ran. Not a good look at all for him. My bet is the guy committed suicide. He had no were to go, nowhere to run. If he is still alive I would be surprised.

I thought from the start OJ did it. I also thought from the start that Casey Anthony did it. But my issue isn't odds, but process. It is ok to hate the nature of the charge. It is not ok under any circumstances to skip due process.

Again, with Chauvin, any sane person can watch that video of him with his knee on Floyd's neck and know that was murder. Chauvin deserves every year he gets. I am merely saying you cant nor should not skip the process of the court.

Nancy Grace is a failed lawyer and a media hack. And she is now a pundit on Farts Noise.

Again, not a surprise. But that still does not mean humanity should skip due process.

I think people might forget that Trump put out a full page ad targeting the "Central Park 5" only to have them exonerated years later.

I am not arguing this boyfriend is innocent. From the looks of it, at face value, it is highly likely he did it.

I hate that Casey Anthony was acquitted. But when a jury comes up with a "not guilty" verdict, they are not really saying that they didn't do it. In legal terms at the most, it means the state failed to prove it's case.

In the case of this women, I'd bet my life this guy did it. But that does not mean we should skip due process.

In the long term, in terms of decades and centuries, the attitude has always been to avoid vigilantism.

It isn't enough in legal terms to simply state the obvious. It may be obvious in reality, but that does not mean you can skip putting the obvious through court and jury review. If we scrap that review, then we might as well be the Taliban. The truth is, that our justice system hurts minorities and the poor at a far higher rate than the white middle class. I don't argue for this guy because he is white. I argue for process regardless.

Thanks for clearing that up, because everyone in this thread was saying we SHOULD skip due process.

The boyfriend drives to a nature preserve a few days ago where he was known to go hiking. He left a note on the car saying to remove it...that sorta says to me he didn't plan on coming back.

Let's just say he's not guilty of killing Petito...he sure is making it look as though he is.
