Yes, it is sad that so many people are so stupid or stubborn that they manage to kill themselves because they refuse to take a free vaccine that could save their lives.
It is sad that they are so stupid and stubborn that they would prefer to gargle iodine instead of getting a shot in the arm that could save them.
And if this was all that was going on, I could say it is sad that people are so stupid and stubborn.
But that is NOT all that is going on.
Those people who are refusing to get vaccinated are taking up hospital beds and making it so that others cannot get treatment. People having heart attacks cannot get treatment because these idiots are taking up the space. There is now an automatic DNR order in some places because resources cannot be spared because these idiots didn't get a simple shot in the arm.
At that point, they are killing others, not just themselves. That doesn't just make me sad, it makes me furious.
But there is more.
One reason variants are developing and spreading is because there is a pool of vulnerable people in which mutations can develop and spread. The larger this pool of people, the more likely it is that a variant will end up being immune to the vaccines, thereby putting everyone in danger again.
Also, because of their stupidity and arrogance, we have to go back to lockdowns, we cannot travel out of the country, we cannot eat out, we cannot do any number of things that all of want to be able to do. I have to wear a mask while teaching and so do my students because these people have not taken basic measures that are there to make them safer and allow everyone to get back to some semblance of normality.
So, yes, I am sad that these people are dying. But it infuriates me that their deaths aren't changing minds of those who survive to o the simple act of getting a shot in the arm that will allows us to get out of this f****** pandemic. It infuriates me that this is going to continue until all those idiots have had this virus and have either died or experienced long term recovery or managed to get over it.
At this point, I have no sympathy for someone who dies of COVID in the US who has not been vaccinated except those who have a legitimate medical excuse for not doing so. Their actions and inactions are affecting everyone else.

Yeah, I'm really on board with that.
Daniel Wilkinson was a purple heart decorated veteran and he was only 46 years old. He had a simple case of galstones. It should have been a 30 minute procedure to fix. Unfortunately, he lived in Houston and Greg Abbot has been doing everything in his power to turn Texas into a covid hellscape. With covid taking up all the medical resources, he couldn't find a hospital that could treat him. Less than 24 hours after he sought treatment, he was dead.
I presented the case to covid skeptics and they claimed it was just because antivax nurses are being fired that hospitals are short staffed.
They seem to be grasping at every straw to justify their negligence of this disease. Everyone is suffering because of it.
If that were it, I would be angry at them, sure, but I'd still feel bad about their deaths. But that's not the end. Because when George Floyd was needlessly killed by a cop, they laughed and made "I can't breath" jokes about it. When Tamir Rice died, they ignored it. When Trayvon Martin was killed they said he deserved it. They're the ones who masturbate over the thought of a gun but ignored a cop needlessly killing Orlando Castile for having a legal, licensed handgun.
That was never where their hostility ended, either. They said immigrants deserved horrible conditions in needless prisons. They encouraged hate to muslims. Because I'm transgender, I can't tell you how many times I was called deviant or sick by people who later became antivaxxers. Hell, Bob Enyart here was a right wing fundie who had a TV show back in the late 90's where he would actually play Another One Bites The Dust while reading the obituaries of AIDS deaths; why do I have to show him more respect than he showed others? If they don't want people laughing at them and their deaths, why are they laughing at the pain and suffering and, yes, deaths of other people?

Neither. I want you to stop excusing and apologizing for your cabbie who didn’t have a problem with spreading a deadly disease.
And it wasn’t ‘logic’, faulty or otherwise. It was selfish, pig-ignorant cruelty. The least you could do is request a different driver.

It isn't a matter of apologizing. Even her co worker, my other cabbie doesn't understand why she didn't get the vaccine. But what kind of species do we want to be? There is lots others do in life outside even this issue that pisses me off. I am pretty sure my detractors here would not like it if I had the same power Trump did, or Kim Jong Un does.
It sucks when humans don't conform. And we will always be tribal. But even when someone who makes stupid choices that affect others, YES, that pisses me off. But that still does not give me the right to revenge.
Trapper and Hawkeye and BJ and Winchester would all agree that the oppressive state of North Korea was and still is a bad thing. But they all would treat unarmed combatants and civilians the same if they were injured or ill, because that is the epitome of the Hippocratic Oath.
I have two biological family members, whom prior to this pandemic, I barely speak to, and long before this pandemic. We do not ideologically get along, and they are far right fundies. But that does not give me the right to forget that they are still human beings.

Of course it doesn't give YOU the right to revenge, because you think it's OK to enable people who endanger other people. I'm made a little differently.
