The Sects of Atheism
RE: The Definition of Atheism

What are you doing?

I think that I've spotted the source of your confusion.

Atheism: The lack of belief in a god or gods.

Note the complete lack of any statement about any other beliefs. The soul is not god. The afterlife is not god. So an atheist can have any or no belief in either of these without contradiction.

I remember this one atheist who believed in heaven via some very poorly explained notion revolving around an infinitely large multiverse containing the ideal planet for you and your brain quantum resonating with that planet at the moment of your demise. Think Don't ask me to explain it, he was clearly abusing words that had never done a single thing to harm him. He was a nit wit but he was still an atheist and I say that as somebody who'd have gleefully excommunicated him if I could have.

Do atheists believe things? Sure they do. They just don't believe in god.

Cute atheists are those who think theists lack evidence,

Less cute atheists think there is positively no God (100% certainty).

Then you have militant atheists who go out and actively preach their lack of belief

and then, at the Pol Pot level, atheists rigorously apply natural selection to entire populations.

WHAT?!? You BITCH! How DARE you say I'm not CUTE just because I've aimed an asteroid at Mecca! Fuckers like you just don't get the irony of throwing rocks at the entire Hajj pilgrimage. I'm going to go drown my sorrows with a bucket of ice cream and the blood of everybody at the Vatican. SEE WHAT YOU'VE MADE ME DO!!!

What do you mean when you say the soul ? Try and be specific, if you don't know or the concept is so vague to, you simply say you don't know what you mean.

All right serious poster. Let’s define it as “consciousness”. Your turn.

So I can kill your soul with nothing more than a nasty bump on the head or a little chloroform? How do you get the new one? Or does the old one just grow back?

Please elaborate on the details of soul death. As you can see from above I'm one of Klorophulluvit's Genocidal Atheists (We all are, but don't tell anybody!) and I have some high hopes for this area of research.

Does god get off on shredding the souls of people with neurodegenerative diseases or severe psychological disorders while they still live? I mean we know that he can only achieve climax by torturing the souls of the damned for eternity but rigging your neurophysiology so that he can shit on them in this life too is taking it to the next level.

In my experience, the work has already been done by the time we get em here.  I wonder what it could be that reliably does that to so many people?  It's almost as if there's some force or movement out there assuring shitty people that dumb things are true, not just dumb things about gods or the universe in general..but dumb things about people who don't believe in them as well.

Any ideas on what that might be?

Like I said...a true master of the art. You almost had me.

Like I said, I can't take credit. You seem like a guy whos aware that the beliefs you were raised in were...let's say, stunted? Sure you managed to ditch the kind of thing you were attempting to leave behind? Is that how you came to be in the position of believing that the three statements you commented on in our new friends other shitthread were all just opinions about facts?

Not a single warning light turned on?

That's the kind of thing that concerns me about the current crop of theistic religions. I wonder if it's a routine effect -of- theistic religions...sort of like how we believe it would be bad if a trusted person lied to us, and sometimes so bad, depending on the level of trust we've assigned - that even when we realize that what we'd been told was a lie, we memory hole that realization and insist that the lie is somehow salvageable. If our parents, or or pastor..or heaven forfend..uncle god himself, lead us to believe an untrue thing - well, other people are going to notice when conversation or circumstance touches it's borders.

It's manifestly obvious that someone has filled this guys head with nonsense. You reckon he did it to himself, maybe, all alone - no help?

Of course the warning lights went on because for whatever mysterious reason AF attracts a very odd fringe assortment of theists, myself included, and drives away more mainline center of the road religous folks, such as CatholicLady and Roadrunner. Even they were quirky in their own way. What I am saying is it doesnt surprise me when 2 new ingnoramouses swoop in to take Drich's place.

Is there a common denominator? Yes, children toying with adult tools, making fools of themselves and hurting others.

I've always seen it more of the reverse. Adults toying with children's tools, making fools of themselves and hurting others.

I remember Cath and Road. They were both nuts....just absolute nuts - or..you know, if we accepted the things they claimed to believe as genuine expressions, ofc.

I wonder how Roadrunner's doing. I always liked his input, even if I disagreed. He was always willing to engage in an honest way. I'll take CL or RR over this shitposting nonsense any day of the week.

Personally, I'm less concerned with the delivery than the content. I guess we all like to be bullshitted in different ways. Wink
