What Cult Classic did you love before it became a Cult Classic.

This is a great thread for hipsters. What movies, television or whatever that became a cult phenomenon did you like "before it was cool."

Ten year old me LOVED Weird Al Yankovic's UHF. I remember recording it off HBO and watching it repeatedly. It's general badness is probably why it became a cult classic, but a ten year old can enjoy that movie quite unironically.

So let's hear it folks. Channel your inner hipster. What cult classic did you like before it became a cult classic?

I knew Pat Benatar and Radiohead were going to be big the first time I heard them. I heard the debut radio play of "Creep" and knew they were something. My thinking the same about The Knack and My Sharona wasn't quite as prescient.

The Breakfast Club - which I, and my older daughter, can pretty much recite.

And Labyrinth - which I happened to have watched yesterday.

I'm not entirely sure I can name any off the top of my head (especially since I tend to come into the cult movie cycle at the other end), but I hope that it happens to Bratz: The Movie before I die. At least one other person seems to enjoy the trainwreck as much as I do.

Good idea Rev, tweak this a little and post clips from the films.

Breakfast Club. I was roasting bowls to that back in 19xx.

I only say 19xx because I was roasting bowls so I can't be sure of the timeline.

I was going to find some clips, but none of the clip compilations could do the movie justice. Well, I guess I'll try. Just be warned that there's a shitton of crazy shit that these compilations left out:

Not included:
  • The rundown of the various cliques, which includes kids who dress up like dinosaurs.
  • Alpha Bitch Meredith threatening Yasmine with a fucking Katana that she just has in the office that she also just has.
  • Yasmine's kid brother turning out to be the pupal form of Dahvie Vanity.
  • The line "If I see one more violin playing contortionist, I'm going to scream!"
  • Meredith arriving to her Super Sweet Sixteen (her second one that she holds specifically to hold onto her popularity, and even the movie points out this makes no sense) on an elephant.

Has anyone seen El Topo? I might need to buy this one, looks really funky from this vid.
