The consensus you’re imagining doesn’t exist. What constitutes ‘knowledge’ is very much an open question among epistemologists.

But that’s beside the point, which is whether a scientifically reached conclusion has a different value from the same conclusion reached by other means.

Since science is the most reliable way of knowing about the empirical things, it does.

Personally, I'd say scientifically reached conclusion hold more weight simply because it requires repeated testing, documentation, ruling out of various factors and finally and evidence-based conclusion.

EG:

Person A: Water turns to ice due to invisible ice goblins.

Person B: Water turns to ice when the temperature of the water drops below 32F (0C). This causes the water molecules to slow down enough to stick to each other and form a solid crystal.

Of course it carries more weight, but this isn’t about a wrong non-scientific conclusion, but about one that happens to be right.

Person A (non-science): Water turns to ice only when it gets very, very cold.

Person B (science): Water turns to ice only when it gets very, very cold.

Since science is the most reliable way of knowing about the empirical things, it does.

It’s not about reliability, it’s about whether an accurate conclusion reached by happenstance has a value  different from the same conclusion reached by scientific investigation.

I understand.  I suppose I would just prefer the right answer to have substance.

I know that, but I can't guess what it means in this context.

It's a wizard, Harry.

(I’ll save him the time.)

What does that mean?

A conclusion that is more reliable has more value. Don't you agree?

This doesn't invalidate accidental knowledge. Which has value.
