Renouncing Judaism
It's not a race, it's a religion. No? #tenpointsforbrevity

RE: Renouncing Judaism
It depends on how you look at Judaism. You could look at it like a particular set of descendants (race), a collection of cultural practices (ethnicity), or you could focus on the beliefs of the people (religion).

The lines between those categories are blurry. One may convert to Judaism, and be recognized as Jewish by the larger community that way. There are also those who have joined into Jewish communities throughout time and so modern Jewish communities contain people from a plethora of descendants.

It's not just a religion.

Also, not accusing anyone of anything, but 'Jewish is not a race' is frequently a precursor to unbridled anti-Semitism.

The point you're trying to make here, OP, is?

It does not magically become ok to make prejudiced statements about Jews if everyone here (hypothetically speaking) were to agree that Jews are not a race.

Just as it's not ok to make prejudiced statements about Muslims just because Islam is a religion and not a race, for example.

It’s a religion with an unusual amount of baggage.

I consider it a religious culture, if anyone can become jewish then it's not a race.

Not being a Jew, I don't seem to be in an ideal position to renounce Judaism....
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I suspect most “races” include substantial contingents who become incorporated by means other than being of descent that nominally defines the “race”.

Judiasm seems to be a religious culture in which the concept of “race” long played a central role, and which continues to play an unusually large role now.

The Hittites were important, the Egyptians were important; the Jews were those peoples who lived in between. They are remembered because they were among the first peoples to go from polytheism to henotheism to monotheism.

You should reconsider. I hear you get better wifi in Brooklyn and the parties inside the strings are off the hook.
