RE: Server Issues
VOID, does it not strike you as odd that I say that I cannot access the forum or sever thread while being on the forum and sever thread?

RE: Server Issues
You could have been posting via mobile, and you had problems in chat earlier when nobody else did, so no.

In that case, I am on my PC, and I cannot access the forum in anyway possible, including services such as proxies.

And here I thought it was rude to waste the time of authorities with false alerts or poorly defined problems...

I can do it too, you know: The who's online list is broken and all it shows is oggtheclever. Is oggtheclever really the only person online? Is this some sort of april fools day prank devised by adrian? Because it's seriously a lame prank that is disrupting how the forum works.

And if your wonder, the above (like it seems with your post, but don't judge me too hard for falling into a sarchasm) is untrue nonsense that would only waste the time of the governing body. Shall we call out "FIRE!" to the firefighters on their way to an actual fire? Might we call out "ROBBER!" to the policeman who is quietly observing a law-abiding (lol?) populace? Will we scream out "RAPE!!!!! HELP!!!!!" to the populace at large when all that is occurring is you being an asshole that wants to waste people's time and troll them?

Alternately, if you actually were having a problem: IT JUST DOESN"T FUCKING WORK! Angry

That's not unlike dialing 911 and yelling "FIRE!" and then failing to state *where*, or any other information. Or telling the kind policeman that you were robbed and failing to suggest who stole from you, when, and what it was. At least with rape or generally yelling in an area with other people around, people can follow a voice... but if you are raped and you don't state by whom (what?) or when: it doesn't do anyone any bloody good!

Now, if instead you said "I can only access the forum via my mobile phone, my PC can't access the forum (but it can access every other site), can you help (please)?" ----> We wouldn't have the issue of not knowing what the problem is (Your ambiguous 'I can't access the forum!' helps nobody), and you hopefully wouldn't be wasting people's time intentionally.

It is only the recipients time that would be wasted. Is it not? And for someone who likes to study reactions of people when they are given false information, is it not helpful for the information giver to receive data and to view the output? And if you are a bit of a sadist does it not give you some pleasure to intentionally waste peoples time? Of course all this is hypothetical.

Now I am waiting for you to set your metaphysical dog upon me so I can be metaphysically bitten. Though, I'd prefer to be bitten in a more satisfying way and not by a dog but beggars cannot be choosers. (Actually, I think they could be but to satisfy the phrase let us say that they can not at all)

In this case, it wasted the time of everyone who read it, although some of us might find such amusing. I do not Smile

If you were actually doing a bit of research... such spontaneous data has no controlled variable. Data you received would likely have passed for naught more than anecdote. It isn't helpful for you to receive data in such a poor manner, unless you know some sap that will buy misinformation from you.

I'm not a sadist, so no. I have an aversion to pain. Depending on where you bite me, and how hard: I might receive pleasure.

Pearl is real, she's been here since 2003, if mistaken I am not. More of a fox than a dog, to be frank. Rabbit slayer. I'm having a hard time being angry with you when you speak of such erotic things as being bitten by a human Undecided

I wish I had more lessons to learn... but alas: I am perfect. Sad

RE: Server Issues
This had me really confused. Couldn't access the site for days, and today it simply said my account didn't even exist. I guess this is why. Sorry for your losses. Too bad people still can't leave sites alone. Seems to be happening to forums more and more.

I was able to save the forums in the state they were on 23rd March 2011 (i.e. about 6 days ago). This means that some posts have been lost, but most of the forums are still here.

I will be gradually updating the server so that this cannot happen again, but for now, please report any errors you find in this thread.

Kind regards,

Tiberius

I am quite experienced at forums creation and maintenance. If people complain about 6 days of missing files, then that is their problem. You are a smart man Adrian, so I assume by the number of days you posted being lost that you back up your database once a week (like every sunday), which is a great way to do it, anything more is too much work, and anything less is asking for trouble in my opinion.

If you are having any problems feel free to send me a PM with any questions on code. Im not perfect at coding, but I know some PHP, xhtml, and Im good with forum software - so give it a shot - Maybe I can help, maybe not. Teamwork is always better than everything resting on your shoulders.

Im here for the long haul.
