Quote:The US attorney’s office in Washington DC, led by the former Fox News commentator Jeanine Pirro, reportedly tried, and failed, to convince a grand jury to indict six Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday over a social media video they recorded to remind service members in the military and intelligence community that they are not required to follow illegal orders.
According to reporting from NBC News and the New York Times, federal prosecutors tried to charge the six lawmakers, all of whom previously served in the military or intelligence agencies, with violating a law that makes it a crime to “to interfere with, impair, or influence the loyalty, morale, or discipline of the military or naval forces of the United States”.
Two of the lawmakers, senators Mark Kelly of Arizona and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, posted statements denouncing the effort to prosecute them for simply reminding active-duty members of the military and intelligence services of their Constitutional obligation to not break the law.
“This is an outrageous abuse of power by Donald Trump and his lackies,” Kelly said. “It wasn’t enough for Pete Hegseth to censure me and threaten to demote me, now it appears they tried to have me charged with a crime — all because of something I said that they didn’t like. That’s not the way things work in America. Donald Trump wants every American to be too scared to speak out against him. The most patriotic thing any of us can do is not back down.”

I should think that a reminder that those in uniform are required to NOT break the law would boost loyalty, morale and discipline.

As if that wasn’t enough,
Quote:Senior US District Judge Richard Leon-appointee of former President George W. Bush, that Hegseth was trampling over the First Amendment rights of Kelly and that his moves are an impermissible form of government retaliation.
“That Senator Kelly may be an ‘unusually staunch individual’ does not minimize his entitlement to be free from reprisal for exercising his First Amendment rights,” Leon wrote. “Senator Kelly was reprimanded for exercising his First Amendment right to speak on matters of public concern.”

It'd be nice if, after Trump is deposed, Hegseth gets called back to the colors and charged with violating his oath.

Quote:Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.) on Thursday questioned why Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would be banned from polling places ahead of midterm elections.
“Why should you ban ICE from being at polling places? Because illegals aren’t supposed to vote in this America,” Smith said during an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
“I mean, like, it does not make sense, the requests that they’re having, enforce the rule of law, and that’s what President Trump is doing. Apparently Democrats don’t like the rule of law. If they don’t like the rule of law, they need to change it,” he added.
In recent weeks, Democrats have raised concerns with ICE and other immigration authorities who wear masks, operate without judicial warrants and question their use of force while interacting with the general public.
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) said ICE agents could try to “intimidate” voters who are heading to polling places to cast their ballot following the death of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota.

Probably because stationing armed goons at polling places is a tried-and-true voter intimidation technique, ya numpty.

I love the judge's description of Senator Kelly as "an unusually staunch individual." Another words, don't fuck with him.

There’s a pejorative Aussie term for Americans like Rep. Smith - seppo. It originated from Cockney rhyming slang: Yankee - Yank - septic tank. A seppo is someone who is full of shit, like Smith. He knows why thugs in uniform have no business monitoring polling stations.

Used to?
Quote:Trump cabinet member: ‘I used to snort cocaine off toilet seats’
Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. reflected on his decades in recovery from alcohol and substance abuse, which included cocaine and heroin, during an appearance Thursday on comedian Theo Von’s podcast “This Past Weekend.”
“I’m not scared of a germ. You know, I used to snort cocaine off toilet seats and I know this disease will kill me, right?” the secretary said.
Kennedy told attendees that he was addicted to heroin for 14 years, beginning when he was a teenager. During those years, he was constantly making promises to quit, both to himself and to his family.
Kennedy said he eventually stumbled upon a book by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung that claimed people who believed in God got better faster and had more enduring recoveries, so he worked to rekindle his faith and started attending 12-step meetings.

MAGA would literally listen to a dude who snorts coke off a toilet seat than an actual scientist.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
