These are not the droids you' re looking for....

Ever creatively talked your way out of trouble with the law?
I was riding with a group going north out of Stinson Beach Ca - riding a rigid frame chopped Triumph 500 Daytona - with a girl on back. I had just bought the bike - had no insurance, registration or license.
We passed a CHIP going the other way - and hit his brakes as if to turn around.
The other bikes all hit it. Leaving me in the dust.. We were just entering 13 turns and the cop lost sight of us for about 30 seconds... I pulled over quickly, shut off the bike and told the girl to get off and I did as well....
I grabbed a rock alongside the road and started beating on the bike' s muffler... The cop came around the corner - lights on - stopped and asked what I was doing......
"Muffler falling off... You got any tools?".
He says "Good luck" and takes off
....
Nothing makes a cop run faster than a plea for help with a dirty job......

I had a cop talk himself out of giving me a ticket back in '85. Second husband and I had just got married and made our way back down to Sierra Vista, AZ to visit some friends for a few days. After a solo visit I was on my way back to where we were staying, driving on the bypass. Cop pulled me. I was speeding. He asked for all the usual paperwork and I told him that the names didn't match as we had just gotten married.
He went on to ask if I had ever driven the car before, I said I hadn't. He went on this long thing about how maybe husband had put different tires on the car and that could have an effect on the speedometer and let me go.
No clue what he was babbling about but I didn't even get a warning. It was really weird.

Several years ago I was driving back home after a night out, a bunch of friends in the car, I saw a car right on my tail, any closer he would have been in the back seat. I kept to the speed limit, then turned into a side street to drop someone off. Thats when I saw the blue flashing lights on top! (oops!) I jumped out went over to the drivers window and hammered on it, when the cop lowered the window I let him have it, "What the hell are you doing doing driving so close, don't you know the stopping distance??" He seemed surprised and asked if I had seen the blue lights I said "No, you were so close I couldn't see anything, I assumed you were a drunk driver, be more careful next time!" I got back in my car and drove off... cop never moved!

The only benefit to misogyny is cops giving you leeway when they pull you over.

Only once, and it wasn't me. I talked my buddy's way out of trouble with the law to his cop dad and the exchange left an impression on me that I carry to this day. He told me he appreciated what I was doing for his son, but that I needed to learn to lie better or just shut my mouth entirely before somebody else showed up. Took his advice when they did.

I had a friend, a biker, who was ordered by a police officer to follow him, at least until they reached a fork in the road...

I was once pulled over for a non-working tail light. I told the constable, ‘Sorry about that. My father died and I’m having a hard time about it.’ He let me go with a verbal warning.
I neglected to mention that my father had died 15 years prior. So, it wasn’t a lie (just a tight squeeze).

1976, my yet to be wife stubbed out a cigarette and dropped it out onto the pavement, right next to the boot of an LAPD motorcycle officer. Didn't get a ticket.
