I think its also interesting that, just like the bible, Grayling is going to fill his book with OTHER people's words and thoughts. This of course is going to allow him to interject somewhere between Confucious and Plato allowing him to come-off as some deep philosophical thinker who has earned the right to print his name alongside the rest of the great thinkers of antiquity. I have to think that in some way this "bible" of his is not only an effort to hijack the title of "atheist messiah" but an exercise in the augmentation of one's own over-inflated ego ..... whether he realizes it consciously or not.

That book doesn't seem like a Bible to me, more like a narrative type encyclopedia. I agree you don't need it. Just pick up a science book. If you're interested in humanism, join them. Somehow I never saw the appeal in humanism though.

For me this doesn't make any sense. Atheism, being only the lack of a belief in god, does not have enough philosophy to fill a post stamp, much less an entire book.

He is a humanist though, and I can see that it might be relevant to write a bible of humanism or some such, but why oh why attempt to put atheism on similar footing with religion or philosophy?

If I have to choose a book to base my life on, then I choose "Letters to Penthouse Forum." The stories are just as false as the ones in the bible, but far more interesting!

Well actually none of the above is true as a principle. Certainly nothing there I support,

There IS NO POINT in being an atheist. The word simply means a person who does not believe in gods.NOTHING ELSE is implied or may be inferred.

I don't know for a fact that any religion is false. I do not believe any to be true due to lack of evidence,which is not the same thing as making a positive claim that they are false. Such a claim attracts the burden of proof. Lots of luck with that.

I lack the personal certitude and arrogance to presume to tell another person what to believe or not to believe.
